Canada\u2019s soccer factory is once again sending a strong contingent to the national team, with five Brampton players invited to this week\u2019s training camp ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.<\/p>\n
Canada Soccer named 32 players to the men\u2019s national team camp as preparations ramp up for next month\u2019s tournament, and Brampton continues to dominate the roster with more hometown talent than any other Canadian city.<\/p>\n
The squad will spend the week training in North Carolina before head coach Jesse Marsch trims the roster down to the final 26-player World Cup squad, which will be announced on Friday.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese are the final days before we announce the squad that will represent Canada at a home World Cup, and the excitement in this group is real,\u201d Marsch said. \u201cWe feel the momentum building across our country, and we are calm, focused, and ready for this moment.\u201d<\/p>\n
Here are the Brampton players who remain in contention for a coveted place on the final roster (and their position and the club they play for):<\/p>\n
Tajon Buchanan, midfielder (Villarreal CF)
\nJayden Nelson, midfielder (Austin FC)
\nJonathan Osorio, midfielder (Toronto FC)
\nCyle Larin, forward (Southampton FC)
\nPromise David, forward (Union SG)<\/p>\n
Brampton has developed a reputation as Canada\u2019s premier soccer pipeline, consistently producing elite players who move from local youth clubs to some of the biggest professional leagues in the world.<\/p>\n
There are several reasons often cited for the city\u2019s soccer success. Brampton has invested heavily in recreational infrastructure, with more than 100 outdoor soccer fields and several major indoor facilities that give young players opportunities to train year-round.<\/p>\n
Soccer has also remained one of the more affordable sports for families. Lower equipment costs, affordable registration fees through local clubs and subsidized city programming have helped make the sport accessible to a broader range of young athletes.<\/p>\n
The city\u2019s cultural diversity has also played a major role. Many families from soccer-loving nations in the Caribbean, Africa and South America have passed down their passion for the sport to the next generation, helping fuel Brampton\u2019s deep talent pool.<\/p>\n
Once the final roster is announced, Canada will play pre-tournament send-off matches against Uzbekistan on June 1 at Play Alberta Field at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton and the Republic of Ireland on June 5 at Stade Saputo in Montr\u00e9al.<\/p>\n
Canada was drawn into Group B during the official FIFA World Cup 2026 draw in Washington last December alongside Bosnia and Herzegovina, Qatar and Switzerland.
