{"id":696757,"date":"2026-05-27T08:38:26","date_gmt":"2026-05-27T08:38:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/696757\/"},"modified":"2026-05-27T08:38:26","modified_gmt":"2026-05-27T08:38:26","slug":"world-cup-2026-paris-st-germain-defender-achraf-hakimi-named-in-morocco-squad-despite-injuory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/696757\/","title":{"rendered":"World Cup 2026: Paris St-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi named in Morocco squad despite injuory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi has been named in the Atlas Lions&#8217; World Cup squad despite the injury he sustained in the Champions League semi-finals against Bayern Munich.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The Paris St-Germain full-back, 27, has not played since the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/live\/cj60j38yk0gt#Report\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">first-leg win over Bayern on 28 April<\/a>, but was pictured in training on Tuesday in the build-up to Saturday&#8217;s Champions League final against Arsenal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Manchester United defender Noussair Mazraoui, Fulham defender Issa Diop, Crystal Palace defender Chadi Riad, Sunderland winger Chemsdine Talbi and Real Madrid&#8217;s Brahim Diaz are among the other players selected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Former West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd, Sofyan Amrabat, formerly of Manchester United, and ex-Leicester midfielder Bilal El Khannouss are also included.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Former Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech has been left out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Morocco are currently eighth in the Fifa rankings and reached the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/63979844\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">losing to France<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">They were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/articles\/ce949glzzglo\" class=\"ssrcss-18834jl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">controversially declared winners of last year&#8217;s Africa Cup of Nations<\/a> after Senegal had their victory overturned for their walk-off during the final.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Morocco are in Group C with Scotland, Brazil and Haiti.
