I became a pastor and actually starting pastoring in Winnipeg as a youth pastor. There’s been this kind of calling in my life. I’ve been involved in pastoral work, government, business, and more recently, as my parents got older and passed away, we had to do something with the charity they had started.”

After praying about which direction to take, Johnston and his wife felt called to focus their lives back on mission work. Johnston went back to his roots, as he grew up as a missionary kid.

“We grew up doing missionary work. My dad was very courageous and as children he took us into remote areas of the island of Jamaica where we helped to build churches.”

Through the lense of God’s love

This time in Jamaica positively affected the rest of Johnston’s life and choice in career.

“We really want to further the kingdom of God, and help the work that’s going on around the world. As a child, experiencing the poverty and the needs that were present, it changes your life. It helps you to realize how blessed we are in Canada. It gives you a different perspective on life. I would encourage parents to expose your children to things like this at a young age. It’s been very foundational in my life.”

Johnston says GMissions Cafe are also looking for volunteers.

“Our slogan is to advance kingdom work, and we can all be a part of that.”

A new Winnipeg café is blending coffee with compassion, as GMissions Cafe opens its doors near the airport…

[194296
49,48,22073
post-696994","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-winnipeg","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-winnipeg
["GET
