\nDanny Gomes, Chris Lomoro, Paul Grimes, Anthony Greco and PGA pro Branson Ferrier of The Nest at Friday Harbour in Innisfil will now have the opportunity to win a Canadian National Championship.<\/p>\n
The team won the Greater Toronto RBC PGA Scramble regional final earlier this week hosted at their home course, The Nest at Friday Harbour, finishing ahead of 23 teams to earn a trip to the national final at the Cabot Links Golf Course in Inverness, N.S., in early October.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were firing on all cylinders, and after we made a par on our second hole, we knew that all of us as a team had to start stringing birdies and eagles to push our team to the top of the leaderboard,\u201d said Gomes. \u201cI think we had a big moment from everyone on our team. From crucial putts and massive drives to wedges that set us up for tap-in birdies, it was a collective contribution from every member of our squad at different moments throughout the round. This team effort ultimately propelled us to this exciting victory.\u201d<\/p>\n
The team qualified for the 18-hole RBC PGA Scramble regional tournament through winning the local qualifier event also held at The Nest at Friday Harbour earlier this summer. The team-focused scramble format considers the handicap of each golfer when calculating their final score, allowing anyone who has a registered Golf Canada handicap the chance to participate and win.<\/p>\n
The group will compete against teams from all over the country at the October final.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis trip of a lifetime is definitely starting to sink in, especially after hearing the results and confirming our win,\u201d said Gomes. \u201cWith Branson joining the team at The Nest in 2025 and us hosting the regional final, we knew this was our best opportunity to reach the national final and also contend for the championship come October. We\u2019re all incredibly excited to get out there.\u201d<\/p>\n
