GDANSK, May 27 (Reuters) – Poland’s largest video game developer CD Projekt will release a third story expansion for its flagship \u200cgame “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” in 2027, it said on \u200cWednesday, helping to bridge the gap before its next major title.<\/p>\n
CD Projekt’s shares, which \u200bwere trading up before the announcement, reversed course to fall around 4% by 0948 GMT. Analyst Micha\u0142 Wojciechowski from Ipopema Securities said the market had expected the expansion to be released in 2026.<\/p>\n
The expansion’s release date also poses \u200ca question on whether \u2060the launch of the widely anticipated fourth part of the Witcher game series could be pushed to 2028, instead \u2060of the 2027 release expected by the market, Wojciechowski said.<\/p>\n
CD Projekt has not yet announced a release date for Witcher 4.<\/p>\n
The new expansion pack, titled “Songs \u200bof the \u200bPast”, will be available on PC, \u200bPlayStation 5, and Xbox Series \u200cX|S consoles and will feature series protagonist Geralt of Rivia, the company said.<\/p>\n
It will be the third Witcher 3 expansion, after highly acclaimed “Hearts of Stone” and “Blood and Wine”. It is co-developed with Fool’s Theory, a studio that includes veterans who worked on the original Witcher 3.<\/p>\n

First released in \u200b2015, “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” \u200bhas sold more than 60 million copies, making up \u200cthe majority of the 85 million \u200bcopies sold for \u200bthe entire Witcher franchise, and won over 250 Game of the Year awards.<\/p>\n
Aside from Witcher 4, CD Projekt is currently working on \u200bthe second part of \u200cits Cyberpunk franchise and two other projects codenamed Sirius and \u200bHadar.<\/p>\n
