Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma<\/a>, the new horror film from director and writer Jane Schoenbrun (I Saw the TV Glow<\/a>, We\u2019re All Going to the World\u2019s Fair<\/a>), revealed its first full trailer today. The film made its debut at the Cannes Film Festival on May 13, where it earned significant praise from critics.<\/p>\n

Mubi released a teaser trailer for Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma<\/a> in February, which was more focused on disturbing, disconnected visuals and building a disquieting vibe. The full trailer is still beautifully, unrelentingly weird (a common theme in Schoenbrun\u2019s work), but it gets more into the plot of the film.<\/p>\n

Kris (Hannah Einbinder) is a director hired to reboot the Camp Miasma horror film franchise. She seeks out Billy Preston (Gillian Anderson), the final girl of the first Camp Miasma film, hoping to cast her in the reboot. Kris finds Billy living at Camp Tivol, the abandoned sleepaway camp where the first film took place, which is odd enough on its own, but the \u201csomething\u2019s really wrong here\u201d meter starts pushing into the red in earnest when Billy begins spouting cryptic lines like, \u201cSomeone\u2019s gotta be here when Little Death comes back.\u201d Little Death (Jack Haven) is the villain of the Camp Miasma franchise\u2014a hazmat-suit-wearing, harpoon-wielding, metal-box-headed being that emerges from the lake.<\/p>\n

Schoenbrun has described<\/a> Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma as both \u201ca new kind of horror remake\u201d and their \u201cbest attempt at the \u2018sleepover classic.’\u201d In a separate interview with the Hollywood Reporter<\/a>, they also described it as a film \u201cabout learning how to stop dissociating during sex.\u201d The trailer teases a psychosexual connection between Kris and Billy, which is sure to play out in a mind-bending stunner of a climax. We\u2019ll see if anyone makes it out alive when Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma hits theaters on August 7.<\/p>\n
