The brand does not sell a single sedan right now, discontinuing the LaCrosse after the 2019 model year and the Regal after 2020. However, it appears there\u2019s a shift among consumers toward more cars rather than trucks or SUVs, which this new Buick could capitalize on.<\/p>\n

Buick\u2019s entire lineup is packed with model names that begin with the letter “E,” and we wouldn\u2019t expect anything less for this new sedan. The automaker filed a trademark for the Electra<\/a> name in 2025, which it uses in China on a range of new-energy vehicles.<\/p>\n Buick could use it here in the United States, and it might hint at the powertrain underneath, even though we wouldn\u2019t expect a fully electric variant anytime soon. Electra is a name Buick has used before, debuting in 1959, with production lasting through 1990.<\/p>\n The Electra seems like an obvious choice, but GM could surprise us with something completely different. The dictionary is the limit.<\/p>\n What Platform Will It Ride On?<\/p>\n The new Buick sedan will ride on GM’s updated Alpha 2 platform<\/a>, which will underpin the next Cadillac CT5 and the upcoming seventh-generation Camaro<\/a>. The platform is expected to retain the architecture\u2019s rear-wheel-drive configuration.<\/p>\n Photo by: General Motors<\/p>\n What Will Power It?<\/p>\n The powertrain lineup for Buick\u2019s sedan is a mystery. The platform will be capable of accommodating a range of powertrains, including V8s, but with Cadillac readying a new CT5, the Buick might pack something unique to differentiate it.<\/p>\n We expect the Buick will pack a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, likely the LSY that powers several GM models, including the current CT5. It makes 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque in the sedan.<\/p>\n While the V8 will fit, we wouldn\u2019t be surprised if the top engine was the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 that makes up to 360 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque in the CT5-V. Our rendering depicts the brand\u2019s new model with a sharp nose, a gaping lower intake, and sleek headlights largely inspired by those vehicles.<\/p>\n At the back, the car features a short rear deck, a small trunk spoiler, and quad exhaust tips that sit below an aggressive\u2014for Buick\u2014diffuser. Inside, we expect the sedan to have at least two screens and Super Cruise capability.<\/p>\n When Will It Debut?<\/p>\n We could see Buick\u2019s new sedan as early as this year. Production for the next-generation Cadillac CT5, riding on the updated platform, is expected to begin in the fall of 2027. The automaker\u2019s current lineup starts at just over $25,000 for 2026 and tops out with the Enclave, which starts at around $47,000, so we doubt it will be more than $50,000.<\/p>\n If it is sharing a platform with Cadillac, GM won\u2019t want it to be too expensive and compete with the new CT5, so we expect the new Buick to undercut.
