{"id":699248,"date":"2026-05-28T11:42:21","date_gmt":"2026-05-28T11:42:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/699248\/"},"modified":"2026-05-28T11:42:21","modified_gmt":"2026-05-28T11:42:21","slug":"40-temporary-homes-on-vacant-lots-proposed-for-district-of-north-vancouver","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/699248\/","title":{"rendered":"40 temporary homes on vacant lots proposed for District of North Vancouver"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>VANCOUVER \u2013 The Province of B.C. and the District of North Vancouver have announced a partnership to develop new temporary homes for those experiencing homelessness.<\/p>\n<p>BC Housing and the District of North Vancouver are exploring adding as many as 40 temporary homes on vacant lots at 1182 Welch St. These additions would be part of the Homelessness Encampment Action Response Team (HEART) and Homelessness Encampment Action Response Temporary Housing (HEARTH) program, explains a release.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed temporary homes with supports are subject to municipal and other approvals and would be prioritized for adults in the North Vancouver community who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness.<\/p>\n<p>BC Housing and the operator, Lookout Housing and Health Society, will use a community-based process to offer temporary housing to people suited to their individual needs and available supports.<\/p>\n<p>Lookout will provide a variety of services including:<\/p>\n<p>at least three\u00a0staff o site 24\/7\u00a0<br \/>\ntwo meals a day<br \/>\nskills training<br \/>\nhealth and community support referrals<\/p>\n<p>In addition to these services, there will\u00a0be security features, such as fencing, camera monitoring and a controlled single point of entry, the release adds.<\/p>\n<p>These temporary homes will serve as a bridge, while new permanent supportive housing is built in the community.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>To put HEART and\/or HEARTH in place, 16 local governments are partnering with the province.<\/p>\n<p>Phase one communities include Abbotsford, Campbell River, Chilliwack and Cheam First Nation (HEARTH only), Duncan (HEARTH only), Kamloops, Kelowna, Nanaimo, Prince George, Victoria and Vancouver.<\/p>\n<p>Phase two communities with new partnerships include Cranbrook, New Westminster, North Vancouver, Powell River, Smithers and Squamish.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"VANCOUVER \u2013 The Province of B.C. and the District of North Vancouver have announced a partnership to develop&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":699249,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[194298],"tags":[49,48,55],"class_list":["post-699248","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-vancouver","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-vancouver"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/699248","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=699248"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/699248\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/699249"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=699248"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=699248"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=699248"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
