{"id":699318,"date":"2026-05-28T12:32:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-28T12:32:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/699318\/"},"modified":"2026-05-28T12:32:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-28T12:32:09","slug":"treasury-yields-rise-amid-renewed-inflation-fears-ahead-of-key-data","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/699318\/","title":{"rendered":"Treasury yields rise amid renewed inflation fears ahead of key data"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Treasury yields rose early Thursday after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/05\/28\/oil-prices-us-strikes-in-iran-revive-strait-of-hormuz-turmoil-fears.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Iranian strikes<\/a> on a U.S. military base earlier in the session prompted renewed pessimism on the likelihood of a swift resolution to the conflict.<\/p>\n<p>Traders also await new economic data on the U.S. inflation picture due later on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The yield on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/US10Y\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">10-year U.S. Treasury<\/a>\u00a0note \u2014 the main benchmark for mortgages, auto loans and credit card debt \u2014 increased by more than 1 basis point to reach 4.4945%.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/US2Y\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2-year Treasury note<\/a>\u00a0yield, which is more sensitive to short-term Federal Reserve interest rate decisions, was also 1 basis point higher at 4.0534%. The longer-dated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/US30Y\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">30-year Treasury bond<\/a>\u00a0yield, which typically reacts to political risks, was less than 1 basis point higher at 5.0222%.<\/p>\n<p>One basis point is equal to 0.01%, and yields and prices move in opposite directions.<\/p>\n<p>Treasury yield gains come after a sharp fall on Wednesday when investor optimism helped ease expectations for inflation and Federal Reserve interest rate hikes.<\/p>\n<p>Investors will be keeping a close eye on April&#8217;s core personal consumption expenditures index, one of several economic data releases due out later, amid signs that U.S. inflation remains sticky.
