{"id":699627,"date":"2026-05-28T15:52:10","date_gmt":"2026-05-28T15:52:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/699627\/"},"modified":"2026-05-28T15:52:10","modified_gmt":"2026-05-28T15:52:10","slug":"grammy-winner-keeping-montreals-hockey-spirit-alive-with-new-song-as-habs-face-elimination","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/699627\/","title":{"rendered":"Grammy-winner keeping Montreal&#8217;s hockey spirit alive with new song as Habs face elimination"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Montreal Grammy-winner Jennifer Gasoi is known for her jazz-based children\u2019s songs, but what some may not know is that she\u2019s a big hockey fan \u2014 and as the Habs face elimination, she hopes her new song will help keep the city\u2019s hockey spirit alive. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy goal is to bring joy, love, feeling of community, light and inspiration through my music,\u201d she told CityNews. \u201cI think this piece does that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The two-time Juno-nominated singer\/songwriter explained that she actually wrote the song \u201cThe Game in Canada\u2019s Heart\u201d back in 2013. This was for a competition looking for the nation\u2019s next great hockey hit.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wrote this song but I never submitted it,\u201d said Gasoi.<\/p>\n<p>Fast forward 13 years, she found herself going through old demos on her computer and stumbled upon this piece.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI listened and was quite moved by it,\u201d she said. \u201cTotally forgot I wrote this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gasoi sent the song to her friend, who encouraged her to share it with the public. <\/p>\n<p>But with the demo not of good enough quality, she called another friend\u2014 Montrealer Henri Oppenheim\u2014 and said, \u201ccan you record a song for me tomorrow morning?\u201d\u00a0 He said \u201cyes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe recorded it out in two hours,\u201d explained Gasoi. \u201cThen I called my friend Ezra Soiferman and asked if he wanted to collaborate and create a photo video of the song. And can he do this in one day so we can get it out before the next Habs game?\u201d\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d been wandering the streets shooting Habs flags and Habs iconography around town, knowing I had to do something with the images to add my two cents to the Habs fever fray,\u201d said Soiferman when he responded to Gasoi\u2019s request. \u201cAnd then out of the blue you sent me that beautiful, powerful song and it all clicked.\u201c<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Grammys-768x1024.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large\" alt=\"\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Montreal musician Jennifer Gasoi and her father at the Grammys.
