She draws massive television ratings, sells out arenas, and has helped elevate attention surrounding women’s basketball to levels the sport has rarely seen before.

Because of that popularity, criticism aimed at Clark almost instantly becomes a national conversation.

Whether the comments come from former athletes, media personalities, or current players, anything connected to Clark tends to dominate sports discussions.

During the podcast appearance, Champion took issue with some of Clark’s on-court behavior, offering criticism that quickly spread across social media.

As often happens with Clark-related discussions, reactions were divided almost immediately.

Some fans defended Champion’s right to voice her opinion, arguing that Clark should not be immune from criticism simply because of her popularity. Others felt the comments were unfair and part of a growing trend of negativity directed toward Clark since entering the professional ranks.

That dynamic has become increasingly common around Clark.

May 24, 2024; Long Beach, California, USA; Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (22) warms up prior to the game against the Los Angeles Sparks at Crypto.com Arena. Whether the negativity stems from jealousy, frustration, or simply differing opinions, discussions involving Clark rarely stay quiet for long.

That reality comes with being one of the biggest stars in sports — and Caitlin Clark is clearly there now.

— Enjoy free coverage of the top news & trending stories on The Big Lead —

Cari Champion recently sparked conversation across the sports world after criticizing WNBA star Caitlin Clark during an appearance…

[629
49,735,48,254841,82,630
post-699913","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-wnba","tag-ca","tag-caitlin-clark","tag-canada","tag-cari-champion","tag-sports","tag-wnba
["GET
