{"id":700713,"date":"2026-05-29T03:33:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-29T03:33:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/700713\/"},"modified":"2026-05-29T03:33:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-29T03:33:08","slug":"bear-spotted-in-oshawa-neighbourhood","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/700713\/","title":{"rendered":"Bear spotted in Oshawa neighbourhood"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.durhamradionews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/bear-1-556x315.jpg\" title=\"Bear spotted in Oshawa neighbourhood\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img width=\"640\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/bear-1-640x315.jpg\" class=\"left wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"  \/><\/a>\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>A bear has been spotted hanging out in Oshawa.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR)\u00a0has received reports of bear sightings in the Harmony Creek Trail area.<\/p>\n<p>They are monitoring the bear.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">MNR says it\u2019s not uncommon to have bear sightings at this time of year in the Durham region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">They say there is a low-density population of black bears in the northern portions of York and Durham Regions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">They add, in the spring and early summer, bears, particularly younger ones, may travel significant distances as they disperse and search for food or new habitat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">They say as bears move through the landscape, they often follow natural travel corridors, such as river valleys, which can lead them into more developed areas (e.g., Uxbridge, Oshawa, Clarington).<\/p>\n<p>MNR has the following tips<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">If a bear poses an immediate threat to public safety by exhibiting threatening or aggressive behaviour, call 911.
