Theatre Calgary is warning theatre-goers to avoid secondary ticket sites offering tickets to its upcoming show at \u201cextraordinarily high\u201d prices.<\/p>\n
In an email advisory, the theatre company said third-party resellers are offering tickets to its production of Come From Away at significantly inflated prices.<\/p>\n
\u201cTheatre Calgary is not affiliated with these sellers and cannot guarantee the validity of tickets purchased outside of our official website or Box Office,\u201d the advisory said.<\/p>\n
Christopher Loach, Theatre Calgary\u2019s director of media relations, said tickets are still available for as low as $49, but some are being listed on secondary sites for more than $700.<\/p>\n
Loach said one patron paid around $400 for a pair of tickets, which is higher than Theatre Calgary\u2019s official prices, which range from $49 to $130.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe don\u2019t want anybody paying more than they need to, and we cannot guarantee the validity of any tickets purchased on a secondary site,\u201d Loach said.<\/p>\n
He added resale pricing is rarely an issue for Theatre Calgary shows, but is more common with bigger-name productions that have Broadway ties.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re just trying to make sure that people don\u2019t go to the wrong place to buy tickets,\u201d he said. \u201cWe certainly don\u2019t want people to think that it should cost that much to go to a Theatre Calgary show.\u201d<\/p>\n
Theatre Calgary said people should avoid buying tickets at prices listed in the $400 to $800 range, or prices listed in U.S. dollars and are not on the official ticketing page.<\/p>\n
