Just in case folks needed reminding, HBO Max dropped the final trailer for the third season of House of the Dragon<\/a> to further hammer home the point that the body count will be high during the Targaryen civil war for the Iron Throne<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As we\u2019ve seen in the lead-up to the third season of the\u00a0Game of Thrones prequel, these upcoming episodes are going to be less about politicking, diplomacy, and subterfuge than season two and more about all-out war<\/a>. As such, the final trailer for House of the Dragon gave fans a peek at the extreme lengths both sides of the Targaryen family are willing to go to in order to ensure the other\u2019s destruction and secure power.<\/p>\n

Despite Rhaenyra Targaryen\u2019s (Emma D\u2019Arcy) lofty insistence that her bloody rise to power will proceed \u201cwithout further bloodshed,\u201d the final trailer begs to differ. And if all the gnarly arm breaking, dragon flamb\u00e9ing, and snide remarks from Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) weren\u2019t enough to sell how rocky of a road ahead Rhaenyra will have in her war effort, her opposition has also employed smear campaigns in the city streets to make her look unfit for the throne. Seeing her final moments in the trailer, she\u2019s going to be all out of sorts among her own council to get what she wants, even if it means everyone has to suffer to see it done.<\/p>\n

To show HBO Max took viewers\u2019 criticism seriously of season two stretching out its oncoming war a bit too far, season three teases that it\u2019s going to hit the ground running with the Battle of the Gullet. For those who haven\u2019t read the books and want to know what exactly that should mean in terms of your levels of excitement while remaining spoiler-free, co-creator and showrunner Ryan Condal\u2019s interview with Entertainment Weekly<\/a> hyped it up as \u201carguably the craziest episode of television ever made.\u201d And it\u2019s not just Condal teasing how action-packed season three of House of the Dragon will be.<\/p>\n

Speaking with Collider<\/a>, Cooke described the third season as \u201cbigger and more ferocious than before. It starts off with a bang: the first two episodes were essentially supposed to be our finale last year, so you can just imagine that sort of energy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hopefully, whatever may come of House of the Dragon\u2018s third season will see less messy behind-the-scenes turmoil<\/a> than its second season did between its showrunners and George R.R. Martin<\/a>, and keep its warring strictly on screen. After all, we\u2019ve got one more season to go<\/a> before House of the Dragon comes to an end. Here\u2019s hoping it goes out with a bang.<\/p>\n
