A seventh-place finish at the Manitoba Men’s Senior Golf Championship was good enough to earn a trip to New Minas, N.S. <\/p>\n
WINNIPEG \u2013 Thunder Bay golfer Barry Caland has earned a spot at the Canadian Senior Men\u2019s Golf Championship.<\/p>\n
Caland, 54, fired a seven-over 78 on Wednesday to finish seventh overall at the Manitoba senior men\u2019s golf championship at the Glendale Golf and Country Club in Winnipeg, 13 shots off the pace set by Niakwa Country Club\u2019s Todd Fanning.<\/p>\n
Caland entered the final round tied for third place.<\/p>\n
A rough first nine on Wednesday cost him a chance for a better finish, with bogeys on the second, fourth and sixth holes, before double-bogeying the par-five eighth.<\/p>\n
He birdied the par-three 16th.<\/p>\n
Kenora\u2019s Bill Isfeld finished 23 shots behind Fanning, after closing with a seven-over 79 in Round 3 of the 54-event.<\/p>\n
Kenora\u2019s John Francom was 66th, finishing with a 67-over 283 total.<\/p>\n
Rhonda Orr of the Southwood Golf and Country Club won the women\u2019s championship by 20 strokes over Cathy Derewianchuck of the host club, finishing with a 19-over 235 total.<\/p>\n
