{"id":703015,"date":"2026-05-30T04:16:17","date_gmt":"2026-05-30T04:16:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/703015\/"},"modified":"2026-05-30T04:16:17","modified_gmt":"2026-05-30T04:16:17","slug":"stolen-suv-traced-to-west-africa-results-in-fraud-theft-charges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/703015\/","title":{"rendered":"Stolen SUV traced to West Africa results in fraud, theft charges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\tDescrease article font size<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tIncrease article font size<\/p>\n<p>A stolen Land Rover fraudulently purchased in Saskatoon and later tracked to Ghana is highlighting a growing trend of Canadian vehicles being stolen and shipped overseas.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/70c8fc80.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"position:absolute;width:1px;height:1px\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Saskatoon police issued a release describing a months-long investigation that led officers to a stolen Land Rover that had travelled through British Columbia before ultimately ending up in the west African nation of Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>The Saskatoon investigation began on Jan. 14, 2025, when a business in the 2300 block of Faithfull Avenue reported that a man from Alberta had purchased a Land Rover via alleged identity fraud.<\/p>\n<p>With assistance from the Edmonton Police Service and the Canada Border Services Agency, investigators determined the vehicle had left Canada en route to West Africa.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"170\" height=\"225\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/national.jpg\" alt=\"Get breaking Canada news delivered to your inbox as it happens so you won't miss a trending story.\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tGet breaking National news<\/p>\n<p>Get breaking Canada news delivered to your inbox as it happens so you won&#8217;t miss a trending story.<\/p>\n<p>It was later confirmed the Land Rover was in Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>Police allege the suspect was also involved in a second fraudulent vehicle purchase of a BMW X5 from another Saskatoon dealership.
