Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is back in Macau SAR, China TODAY (Sat., May 30, 2026) to stage UFC Macua<\/a> from inside Galaxy Arena featuring a banger of a Bantamweight bout between Yadong Song and Deiveson Figueiredo<\/a>, while Alonzo Menifield and Zhang Mingyang battle in a Light Heavyweight bout in the co-main event on Paramount+<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s easy to look at Song and call him the contender who never truly was. He has all the talent and the skill to become a legit threat to the title, but when the going gets hot the Chinese-born combatant goes cold. If you look at his track record he has impressive wins, including starting his career at 8-1-1, but when the level of competition goes up the wins simply don\u2019t come. His last three defeats came against current 135-pound champion Petr Yan, former title contender, Corey Sandhagen, and ex-division king, Sean O\u2019Malley, who defeated him earlier this year at UFC 326. Currently ranked No. 5<\/a>, Song can prevent from falling out of the Top 5 <\/a>and linger in the title fight conversation if he can secure a big win against Figueiredo, a former champion with plenty of experience and name value that can boost anyone\u2019s resume. Another loss, however, will make it hard for the \u201cThe Kung Fu Kid\u201d to shed the label of a fighter who simply can\u2019t get it done against top competition.<\/p>\n

Figueiredo, meanwhile, has had an even rougher stretch as of late. He is just 1-3 in his last four outings, also losing to Yan and Sandhagen, with his most recent defeat coming at the hands of Umar Nurmagomedov at the beginning of the year. To make matters worse for the Brazilian bomber, he missed weight for that fight<\/a>. Indeed, it has been a huge drop-off for the former UFC Flyweight champion of the world, who at one point looked like a champ who could go on a lengthy run. His four straight fights against Brandon Moreno was unheard off, albeit entertaining<\/a>. Since coming up to 135 pounds he hasn\u2019t been able to find that success he had at 125, but an impressive win over Song can get him into the Top 5 <\/a>and make people forget about his recent struggles. This should make for a great fight as both men love to stand-and-bang, with the victor improving his position in a crowded division.<\/p>\n

A Welterweight collision between Muslim Salikhov and Jake Matthews was scrapped after Salikhov withdrew for undisclosed reasons and was replaced by Carlston Harris, who is coming off two straight defeats and is in desperate need of a win. Matthews, meanwhile, had his balloon popped after his three-fight win streak came to a halt thanks to Neil Magny\u2019s jiu-jitsu (see it here<\/a>).<\/p>\n

A Flyweight bout between Rei Tsuruya and Jesus Santos Aguilar was scheduled to go down at this event before Aguilar withdrew \u2014 and was eventually cut<\/a> \u2014 as a result of an injury. He was replaced by Luis Gurule, who snapped his three-fight skid recently with a win over Daniel Barez just two weeks ago. The bout will now be contested at 135 pounds. As for Tsuruya, he is coming off the first loss of his career at the hands of current champion Joshua Van.<\/p>\n

Former ONE FC women\u2019s Strawweight champion, Xiong Jingnan, will finally make her long-awaited UFC debut after tearing it up overseas for the majority of her mixed martial arts (MMA) career, amassing a 10-1 career with ONE, which includes seven title defenses. She is as exciting as they come so she will definitely give the division a boost. A win over longtime veteran, Angela Hill, will get her into the rankings straight away. For Hill, taking out Jingnan can be the boost she needs for her struggling career.<\/p>\n

Two newcomers will make their UFC debuts against one another in Meng Ding and Jose Henrique. Ding is coming in with a pro record of 35-9 and was last seen being victorious at Urijah Faber\u2019s A1 Combat 30 event last October. As for Henrique, the Brazilian bomber is 8-1 in his pro MMA career, which began seven years ago. That said, he has not been very active and has not seen action in nearly two years which could be a factor here.<\/p>\n

We have another pair of combatants who will be making their debuts against one another in the Middleweight division as Luis Felipe Dias squares off against Yi Sak Lee to see who starts their UFC career off on the right foot. Dias is on a three-fight win streak and made his way into the promotion thanks to a submission win on the Contender Series<\/a>. As for Lee, he is 8-1 so far with seven of his wins coming by way of stoppage, six in the very first round.<\/p>\n

After making his pro debut a decade ago, Rodrigo Vera finally got the call up to the big show. \u201cEl Gato\u201d has an impressive record of 21-1-1 and is scorching hot with 13 straight wins in his back pocket. He will attempt to make a splash right away as he takes on Kangjie Zhu, who is 3-0 inside the Octagon.<\/p>\n

How The \u2018Prelims\u2019 Look:<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve already discussed the majority of the undercard in the previous section thanks to a lot of newcomers, so let\u2019s dive in to take a look at the other two preliminary bouts.<\/p>\n

After earning a spot on the UFC roster via the Contender Series<\/a>, Cody Haddon impressed straight away by winning his UFC debut just two months later. Currently on a six-fight win streak, he will attempt to make it two-for-two under the UFC banner as he battles Aori Qileng, who has been all over the place so far in his UFC career, amassing a 4-5-1 mark. Qileng can not afford another loss, so expect him to come out trying to make a statement.<\/p>\n

Loma Lookboonmee had her four-fight win streak come to an end after coming up short against Alexia Thainara, which means she is now starting from scratch in order to make another run toward a high-ranking spot<\/a>. Her foe, Jaqueline Amorim, also saw her four-fight win streak go up in smoke after coming up short against Mizuki Inoue on the judges scorecards late last year.<\/p>\n

Kai Asakura\u2019s run inside the Octagon has been less than stellar. The former RIZIN Bantamweight champion came in with a lot of hype, but has fallen flat on his face in his first two UFC fights. He was given a title fight in his UFC debut but ultimately lost to former Flyweight champion, Alexandre Pantoja via second-round submission (see it again here<\/a>). In his follow up fight, he was choked out again in the second round, this time against Tim Elliott (highlights<\/a>). Now, Asakura comes into his third fight with a ton of pressure because another loss could send him packing. He will attempt to turn things around against Cameron Smotherman, who could also use a win himself since he is also on a two-fight losing streak. This is a \u201closer leaves town\u201d match if I ever saw one.<\/p>\n

After starting off his UFC career with four straight wins \u2014 all via first-round knockout<\/a> \u2014 Zhang Mingyang suffered his first loss in six years after running into Johnny Walker, as the towering Brazilian knocked him out the last time UFC was in China (see it again here<\/a>). Zhang is hoping for a better showing in front of his hometown crowd when he goes up against Alonzo Menifield, who is also coming off a knockout loss himself<\/a>, losing to Volkan Oezdemir in the first round last November in Qatar. Both men are hungry for a win, but on the flip side they are equally cautious of trying to lose their second straight, so we could see a lot of tentativeness here from both men to start. That said, it could also lead to a violent fight.<\/a><\/p>\n

The UFC Heavyweight division has been rather tepid for a while now. In fact, the lone bright spot (if we can call it that) has been Josh Hokit, who has stolen headlines for his cringe-filled pre and post-fight interviews<\/a>. Thankfully, he can actually scrap <\/a>once the cage door closes. The interim title will be up for grabs at Freedom 250 next month<\/a> as Alex Pereira attempts to go for his third title in as many divisions when he battles Cyril Gane for the chance to unify against Tom Aspinall (eventually<\/a>). In the meantime, other contenders will try to make the climb up themselves, and two men who will attempt to do that will be Sergei Pavlovich and Tallison Teixeira, who will battle in one of the featured bouts of the day. Pavlovich is currently enjoying back-to-back wins over Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Waldo Cortes-Acosta, and has championship fight experience, coming up short against the aforementioned Aspinall in Nov. 2023. He would love nothing more than to get back to the big dance, and a win over Teixeira is a great booster. Teixeira is still very young in his UFC career at 2-1 with his lone loss coming against Derrick Lewis, who knocked him out in just 35 seconds<\/a>. Currently ranked No. 15<\/a>, if he can defeat the No.3 ranked fighter<\/a> in the division, Teixeira will get a huge bump in the rankings and get closer to a title shot, in the process.<\/p>\n

After nearly getting cut due to a three-fight win streak, Sumudaerji found his groove and turned it around by winning his last three bouts, though they all went the full distance. Still, he is very high on confidence at the moment and he is going to need it against the always-tough Alex Perez, who has been rather inconsistent as of late. After kicking off his UFC career with a respectable 6-1 record in his first seven outings, he fell off hard and has since gone just 2-5. He did manage to snap his two-fight skid with a knockout win over Charles Johnson (see it here<\/a>), and is now on the hunt for his first back-to-back win streak in six years.<\/p>\n
