SASKATOON — The Saskatoon Mamba are in the win column for the first time this season in the Canadian Elite Basketball League, but they were once again oh so close to seeing things get away.<\/p>\n
Despite holding a 91-83 lead over the Winnipeg Sea Bears heading into target score, the Mamba would find themselves tied twice at 94 and 98 before finding the final two points and securing a narrow-as-can-be 100-98 victory at SaskTel Centre.<\/p>\n
As a result, Saskatoon improves to 1-4 on the campaign and move into fourth place in the Western Conference while Winnipeg drops to 3-3 and are second.<\/p>\n
The contest ended up being decided at the free throw line, as after Armani Chaney had gone 1-for-2 for Winnipeg to tie the game, Tavian Dunn-Martin hit a pair from the charity stripe to lock down the win.<\/p>\n
Saskatoon had trailed the majority of the first half, with Winnipeg taking a 25-24 lead out of the opening quarter and leading 53-47 at the half. The Mamba would outscore the Sea Bears 25-16 in the third quarter, though, setting the stage for their eight point lead at target score.<\/p>\n
Dunn-Martin had a solid outing in general for Saskatoon, putting up a team-best 21 points while also dishing out eight assists. Jaden Bediako scored 17 points and added 10 rebounds, while Jamir Chaplin picked up 18 points and Trey Townsend scored 11 off the bench.<\/p>\n
Teddy Allen had 28 points and seven rebounds for Winnipeg, with Chaney, Emmanuel Akot and Trey Mcgowens all scoring 14 points.<\/p>\n
The Mamba are right back in action on Sunday at 4 p.m. at SaskTel Centre when they host the Scarborough Shooting Stars.
