{"id":704478,"date":"2026-05-30T20:47:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-30T20:47:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/704478\/"},"modified":"2026-05-30T20:47:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-30T20:47:09","slug":"iio-seeking-witness-after-fatal-incident-near-surreys-holland-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/704478\/","title":{"rendered":"IIO seeking witness after fatal incident near Surrey&#8217;s Holland Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) says it is looking for witnesses after an <a href=\"https:\/\/vancouver.citynews.ca\/2026\/05\/29\/suspect-shot-dead-by-surrey-police-following-stabbings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">incident near a Surrey park Friday<\/a> left two people dead and one seriously injured.<\/p>\n<p>The IIO says Surrey Police Service (SPS) officers were called to a building in the area of Old Yale Road near 133 Street around 1 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>When they arrived, one person was found suffering from stab wounds, IIO media and communications liaison Simon Druker tells CityNews.<\/p>\n<p>SPS officers then went to Holland Park, located near Old Yale Road near King George Boulevard, where they found a second person suffering from stab wounds, Druker says.<\/p>\n<p>While there, officers located a man whom witnesses had identified as being involved in the assault.<\/p>\n<p>(Video credit: Lennart Thomsen)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was then an interaction and the man was shot by police,\u201d said Druker.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was taken at that point to a hospital with injuries but was later pronounced deceased.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Emergency crews attended to both victims, but one was declared dead at the scene, the IIO says. The second victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the organization said in a news release.<\/p>\n<p>The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken over the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Druker said the IIO is looking to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have video footage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur main interest here is conducting a fair, thorough, and as transparent as possible investigation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause it did happen in a relatively populated area of Surrey at a relatively early time of the day, we are very hopeful that a number of people witnessed it or may have recorded.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn general, witness accounts can be very helpful to speeding up or furthering IIO investigations.
