And plenty of people can relate\u2014according to Stony Brook Medicine<\/a>, around 22 million Americans experience these uncomfortable symptoms, which tend to flare up during spring and summer.<\/p>\n

For some, over-the-counter eye drops aren\u2019t enough, especially in more severe cases when inflammation is involved. In those situations, doctors may prescribe corticosteroid eye drops\u2014often a type called prednisolone\u2014which can help relieve pain and reduce inflammation, says the Mayo Clinic<\/a>.<\/p>\n

For those who rely on these types of prescription eye medications, a newly announced recall may be worth checking.<\/p>\n

AbbVie Inc., based in Chicago, first initiated a voluntary nationwide recall on May 18 of PRED MILD\u2014a prescription-only prednisolone eye drop\u2014for quality concerns related to \u201cfailed stability specifications.\u201d According to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration<\/a> (FDA), the eye drops are \u201cindicated for the treatment of mild to moderate noninfectious allergic and inflammatory disorders of the lid, conjunctiva, cornea, and sclera (including chemical and thermal burns).\u201d<\/p>\n

As of Wednesday, May 27, the agency has now designated the recall<\/a> as Class III\u2014the FDA\u2019s lowest risk level<\/a>\u2014meaning the drug \u201cis not likely to cause adverse health consequences.\u201d<\/p>\n
