If you\u2019re having trouble getting Apple Music to play, that\u2019s down to an outage, confirmed by Apple itself. Here\u2019s what\u2019s known about the situation and when it was resolved. <\/p>\n

Among all the services with glowing green circles indicating all was well, listed alphabetically from App Store through to Weather, there was one red triangle. \u201cApple Music \u2014 Outage,\u201d the Apple System Status page<\/a> said.<\/p>\n

A Disruption Impacting Millions<\/p>\n

The outage began at 11.40 Eastern on Friday, May 29, so at the time of writing, it\u2019s been down for around five hours. The outage has impacted multiple countries, including the U.S., and reaching as far as Australia, Brazil, France, India, Italy, Japan, South Korea and Spain. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe company\u2019s System Status pages for each country describe the issue as an \u2018outage,\u2019 rather than the less serious \u2018issue\u2019 designation, explaining that \u2018some users are affected,\u2019 and that they \u2018may be experiencing intermittent issues with this service,\u2019\u201d 9to5Mac<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n

The Third Major Outage This Spring<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the third outage for the service in two months, at least, and one problem lasted more than a day. There\u2019s no indication that this issue will last that long, not least because reports on Downdetector seem mostly to be trending downwards at the moment, indicating that things may slowly be returning to normal, 9to5Mac went on.<\/p>\n

That said, a recent check of Downdetector<\/a> in the U.K. showed there were still spikes of problems being reported. <\/p>\n

What Affected Subscribers Should Do<\/p>\n

It doesn\u2019t mean that it won\u2019t be working for you, but if you\u2019re finding no musical joy, don\u2019t take it personally. I\u2019ll update this post when the service is fully resumed. <\/p>\n

And in the meantime, there\u2019s nothing to be done. Maybe it\u2019s time to break out those dusty CDs for a while. <\/p>\n

Outage Resolved At 9.30 p.m. EDT<\/p>\n

Update: the system status page has now changed to say the outage has been resolved. “Apple Music \u2014 Resolved Outage,\u201d it begins. <\/p>\n

\u201cYesterday 11.40 a.m. \u2014 9.30 p.m. Some users were affected. Users may have experienced intermittent issues with this service,\u201d the site goes on. <\/p>\n

The times quoted refer to the local time zone, in this case Eastern Daylight Time. Checking the U.K. site showed a return to normal at a similar time, with the issue resolved at 1.30 a.m. British Summer Time. <\/p>\n

Checking back to Downdetector and the Apple Music panel now says, \u201cUser reports show no current problems with Apple Music.\u201d This chimes with the comments below the panel, with the last complaint from a user who couldn\u2019t log in happening around 9.15 p.m. EDT. <\/p>\n

Time to pack the CDs and vinyl away again, then?<\/p>\n
