(KWCH) &#8211; The owner of Villa Boxing Club in south Wichita isn\u2019t letting<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kwch.com\/2025\/06\/17\/storm-tears-roof-off-longtime-boxing-gym-wichitas-planeview-neighborhood\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.kwch.com\/2025\/06\/17\/storm-tears-roof-off-longtime-boxing-gym-wichitas-planeview-neighborhood\/\"> damage from last month\u2019s severe weather<\/a> stop his goal of catering to its customers and the community. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The gym is one of many businesses in Wichita that faced significant challenges after the storms. Strong winds ripped the roof off the building, allowing everything inside to get rained on. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">However, a month later, with multiple repairs underway, and the setback has not deterred Jacob Villa from making a difference.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI\u2019m not going to let this control anything that happens for me stop me from training these kids,\u201d he said. \u201cThese kids asked, \u2018Hey, coach, we\u2019d like to train like you trained when you were a kid.\u2019 Now they\u2019re getting a taste of that experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Villa Boxing now hosts classes on the same lawn where the roof landed, teaching kids more than just boxing and imparting life skills and lessons.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWe pray over them, we show them what that looks like, we show them, \u2018Hey, life isn\u2019t easy. There are going to be struggles. There are going to be storms throughout your life. Don\u2019t let that stop you, keep pushing forward,\u201d said Villa. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">He said there was no insurance on the building, but the owner has said they will pay for the repairs. Villa also explained that after seeing news coverage, local construction companies have offered their services, free of charge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cYou know, the building is a blessing in itself, but I believe the true blessing is the people who are praying for us, even now,\u201d said Villa. \u201cI\u2019m thankful for that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/help-villa-boxing-club-rise-again-after-storm-damage\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/help-villa-boxing-club-rise-again-after-storm-damage\">Volunteers started restoration efforts<\/a> on the gym on Friday night.
