LEGO’s The Lord of the Rings Minas Tirith set is now available for purchase alongside a stacked lineup of new sets for June<\/a>. The massive build is only available to LEGO Insiders<\/a> right now (which is free to sign up for), but orders will open soon for everyone on June 4.<\/p>\n

This small window of exclusivity for LEGO members is, in part, due to the GWP attached to it. The limited-edition Grond set is only available when you buy the new Minus Tirith set and only for a short window of time. This gift with purchase is only available through June 7 or “while supplies last”.<\/p>\n

Grond<\/a> is a 307-piece set that depicts the iconic battering ram forged in Mordor. Fans of the movies will likely recognize the ram from The Return of the King where the orcs use it to break through the gates of Minas Tirith. It’s even more prominent in the extended edition of the film<\/a> where Gothmog fails to breach the gates with a standard battering ram before calling in this behemoth to get the job done.<\/p>\n

It’s certainly one of the cooler gifts with purchase LEGO has offered over the years and fits perfectly with the Minas Tirith set. The only hurdle to acquiring it is the high price tag attached to it. The official website lists this set as a $30 item, but since its a GWP<\/a> you can only get it after spending $650 on the larger set. The Minas Tirith set is the one of the biggest sets available now<\/a> and by far the most expensive LotR build to date.<\/p>\n

The LEGO Minas Tirith set was first announced back in May<\/a> where we got all of the details about the new build. It’s officially the biggest LotR set ever created with a whopping 8,278 pieces included. That size makes it the second biggest build available now behind only the LEGO Death Star<\/a> that released last year (9,023 pieces). It’s a massive build of a massive city and comes with a total of seven minifigures: Gandalf the White, Aragorn as King Elessar, Faramir, Denethor, Peregrin Took, Arwen, and four Soldiers of Gondor.<\/p>\n

The LEGO Lord of the Rings sets<\/a> have always leaned more toward the adult market, so it’s not surprising to see the jump in price and piece count for Minas Tirith. At $650 this is one of those LotR gifts<\/a> that will remain out of reach for all but the most dedicated fans with disposable income.<\/p>\n
