One person is dead and another seriously injured as Saskatchewan RCMP arrested a suspect who was the subject of a Saskatchewan alert on Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n
RCMP said in an early evening update that no details about the two victims would be provided at this time, but no other injuries had been reported to police.<\/p>\n

Mounties said officers from the Pelican Narrows detachment responded to a report of a shooting near a local health clinic around 2 p.m., adding that the incident did not occur at the clinic as initially reported.<\/p>\n
The suspect, who has been the subject of an earlier dangerous person alert, was described as a man wearing all black clothing and a face covering who should not be approached.<\/p>\n
Glenda Merasty lives down the street from the clinic. She\u2019s experienced trauma before. In June of 2025, Merasty\u2019s nephew was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m afraid and I have flashbacks. I have bad anxiety because I seen a lot last summer, too, outside my house,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The incident comes just over a week after leadership called for help to deal with rising crime and violence.<\/p>\n
Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation Chief Peter Beatty called last week for more long-term support prompted by the discovery of the body of 16-year-old Jay\u2019siiah Webb-Long, who had been reported missing from Ontario<\/a>,\u00a0 and the killing of Jaden Custer, 26, on May 21<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cThe recent deaths of Jay\u2019siiah and Jaden have deepened the grief and fear that many in Pelican Narrows are already carrying.<\/p>\n \u201cThese losses come amid ongoing and serious violence in the community, including multiple drive-by shootings in recent weeks, Molotov cocktails thrown at a home, and numerous firearms and bear spray incidents. One shooting injured two people. Another shattered the windows of a home,\u201d PBCN said in a statement posted on social media.<\/p>\n Among the new safety measures introduced to try and gain some control was a security checkpoint.<\/p>\n \u201cThe security point is good, but we need cameras in the streets. We need local security within the community, not two to three kilometers away,\u201d one resident said.<\/p>\n Another man who lives in Pelican Narrows described on social media how he and his niece took shelter in a bathtub. He told paNOW he\u2019s never experienced anything like this before.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s pretty traumatizing because you know my niece is still shook and I\u2019m still scared.\u201d<\/p>\n
