Yet that optimism seemed to fall apart this week when Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/trump-iran-war-chirping_n_6a1d2514e4b032392fa38274\" target=\"_blank\" role=\"link\" class=\" js-entry-link cet-internal-link\" data-vars-item-name=\"complained on Truth Social\" data-vars-item-type=\"text\" data-vars-unit-name=\"6a1e5199e4b08a03cfbc0d1f\" data-vars-unit-type=\"buzz_body\" data-vars-target-content-id=\"6a1d2514e4b032392fa38274\" data-vars-target-content-type=\"buzz\" data-vars-type=\"web_internal_link\" data-vars-subunit-name=\"article_body\" data-vars-subunit-type=\"component\" data-vars-position-in-subunit=\"4\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">complained on Truth Social<\/a> that it was difficult for him to make a deal when \u201cpolitical hacks keep negatively \u2018chirping\u2019\u201d at him. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat?!\u201d Stewart asked. \u201cYou\u2019re blaming this shit on us? You can\u2019t make peace unless everybody\u2019s quiet? Is making peace like putting? Or peeing? Is that what this is? \u2018Oh, the peace won\u2019t come out unless everybody shuts up. If you stare at me, I can\u2019t make peace.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-sized__img landscape\" loading=\"lazy\" fetchpriority=\"auto\" alt=\"Donald Trump on Truth Social\" width=\"578\" height=\"339\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/6a1e6cd3140000fbf61ad959.jpg\" \/>Donald Trump on Truth Social<\/p>\n<p>Stewart then played clips of Trump and his insiders talking him up as a master dealmaker. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know deals, I think, better than anybody knows deals,\u201d Trump said in one clip. <\/p>\n<p>Stewart shot back in a mock whine: \u201cUnless somebody makes noise! And then I get scared!\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Next, Stewart showed how Trump had not only failed to reach a deal with Iran despite claiming he\u2019s close, but also failed to make peace between Russia and Ukraine \u2015 something he vowed would happen on the first day of his presidency. In one clip, Trump said he hadn\u2019t been able to make that deal because of the \u201cvery difficult balance\u201d between the two sides. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf only there was a word for closing that gap, a person who could help close it,\u201d Stewart said. \u201cI dunno, a \u2018gap-a-close-anator.\u2019 But that\u2019s the dirty little secret in all of this, isn\u2019t it? Donald Trump isn\u2019t actually a master \u2018gap-a-close-anator.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Negotiating, Stewart said, means getting two parties with different interests to reach an understanding and make a compromise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDonald Trump\u2019s gift is in not doing that,\u201d he said. \u201cTrump\u2019s singular gift is in manufacturing the animus and division that actually makes negotiated settlements so difficult, yet so necessary, in this world.
