Samsung\u2019s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8, the wider one, continues to shape up to be a great addition to the lineup, with a new leak revealing that it fixes another problem with foldables \u2013 weight.<\/p>\n

Leaker Ice Universe took to Twitter\/X<\/a> this week with several tidbits about Samsung\u2019s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 series, the most interesting of which is the weight of the wide Galaxy Z Fold 8. Apparently, the passport-shaped foldable will weigh in at a mere 201g. That\u2019s lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and even many traditional smartphones \u2013 Google\u2019s Pixel 10 Pro XL weighs in at 232g, for example.<\/p>\n

Weight has been a key issue for foldables for quite some time. The added weight of an entire second display, all of the mechanical aspects of the hinge, and more all make it tough to keep these devices lightweight. The original Galaxy Fold maxed out at 273g, and Google\u2019s first Pixel Fold was 283g. Those were both around 50% heavier than the heaviest traditional smartphones at the time and, ultimately, that makes the device a little less nice to use in day-to-day life, so it\u2019s great that Samsung has not only come a long way in this regard, but has also continued to push the weight down.<\/p>\n

The \u201cGalaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra,\u201d<\/a> meanwhile, would stick<\/a> with the same 215g weight as Fold 7, but that\u2019s with a bigger 5,000 mAh battery under the hood. Ice says that the \u201cUltra\u201d is also getting 45W charging and a slight thickness reduction when the device is open, but is otherwise mostly unchanged from Fold 7. <\/p>\n

The device we previously knew as \u201cWide\u201d will also apparently<\/a> get a \u201cnew\u201d 50MP camera sensor that natively supports a 24MP output mode. Samsung usually outputs images at 12MP.<\/p>\n

Rounding out these latest leaks, some more images<\/a> of Fold 8 series dummy units were shared, showing the \u201cWide\u201d next to the \u201cUltra\u201d in its folded state.<\/p>\n
