A trail connecting two waterfalls in the South Slave and associated viewing platforms remain closed because of dangerous riverbank erosion, the GNWT says.<\/p>\n

Parts of the Twin Falls Park Trail were closed off<\/a> late last year, including viewing platforms next to Louise Falls and Alexandra Falls. At the time, the territory said erosion and recent wildfires had \u201ccontributed to the instability of the surrounding terrain.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an update on Tuesday, the GNWT said the entire five-kilometre trail between the Alexandra Falls day use area and Louise Falls campground is closed as the erosion poses \u201ca serious risk to the public.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is no confirmed timeline for reopening the erosion-impacted areas because of the extent of the damage,\u201d the territory stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cA full geotechnical assessment of the area is required to understand what needs to be done in order to make the area safe enough to reopen. Closures will remain in place until trails and infrastructure are improved and the area is deemed safe for public access.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Escarpment Creek camping area is separately closed while wildfire remediation work takes place, the GNWT added.<\/p>\n

The Louise Falls campground itself and the washrooms and picnic tables at the Alexandra Falls rest stop remain open.<\/p>\n
