{"id":710992,"date":"2026-06-02T23:11:30","date_gmt":"2026-06-02T23:11:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/710992\/"},"modified":"2026-06-02T23:11:30","modified_gmt":"2026-06-02T23:11:30","slug":"ttc-unveils-last-major-subway-closure-to-accommodate-world-cup-preparations-toronto","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/710992\/","title":{"rendered":"TTC unveils last major subway closure to accommodate World Cup preparations &#8211; Toronto"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\tDescrease article font size<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tIncrease article font size<\/p>\n<p>As Toronto\u2019s six FIFA <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/world-cup\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">World Cup<\/a> matches approach rapidly, the city\u2019s transit is instituting a series of massive subway closures to accommodate last-minute repairs to the system.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/70c8fc80.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"position:absolute;width:1px;height:1px\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The Toronto Transit Commission confirmed Tuesday it will close a key portion of Line 1 early for several days, entirely on Sunday and then run only partial service one day next week.<\/p>\n<p>A series of stations between St. George and Sheppard West stations will be impacted by the closures, which will see new concrete installed, new track and some replacements.<\/p>\n<p>Until June 4, stations along that section of Line 1 will close to the public at midnight. Then, on Sunday, the entire section will be totally closed to passengers.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"170\" height=\"225\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/national.jpg\" alt=\"Get breaking Canada news delivered to your inbox as it happens so you won't miss a trending story.\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tGet breaking National news<\/p>\n<p>Get breaking Canada news delivered to your inbox as it happens so you won&#8217;t miss a trending story.<\/p>\n<p>The TTC said that June 8 would see the resumption of \u201cpartial service\u201d on the section between Wilson and Lawrence West stations \u2014 with trains limited to a single track.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTen months ago when I joined, we had nearly 30 speed restrictions and today we have six,\u201d TTC CEO Mandeep Lali said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe work being done between now and June 9 will eliminate four more.
