Angel Reese<\/a> came to Atlanta<\/a> to win.<\/p>\n

In the nearly two months since the Chicago Sky traded Reese <\/a>to the Atlanta Dream<\/a>, the star forward has repeatedly expressed her championship motivations for joining the Dream.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to win,\u201d Reese said<\/a> in late May. \u201cI wanted to come somewhere where I was gonna be able to win, and it was the perfect fit for me. [\u2026] Off the court, I knew this was gonna be the place for me. Everybody knows that. But on the court, I wanted [to go somewhere] so I could help a team get to the championship because I\u2019ve won at every level. I want to win a WNBA championship, no matter what it looks like for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

So, Reese likely won\u2019t be overly fazed by the new ways in which she\u2019s writing herself into WNBA history, but it\u2019s still worth celebrating.<\/p>\n

In WNBA Commissioner\u2019s Cup play on Tuesday, Reese recorded 12 points, 13 rebounds, and five assists in the Dream\u2019s 91-75 win over the Connecticut Sun in Atlanta.<\/p>\n

\u201cAngel Reese\u2019s sixth point of the night marked the 1,000th point of her WNBA career,\u201d Atlanta Dream PR wrote on X<\/a>. \u201cThe two-time All-Star reaches the milestone amid a stellar start to her first season in Atlanta, already posting four double-doubles in eight games while leading the league in offensive rebounds per game and ranking second in rebounds per game.\u201d<\/p>\n

In Atlanta\u2019s season-opening win over Minnesota<\/a> on May 9, Reese notched her 50th career double-double<\/a> and reached that milestone in the fewest games of any player in league history (65).<\/p>\n

Reese was a two-time All-Star and two-time rebounding champion in her first two WNBA seasons with the Sky, so Reese\u2019s individual performance was never the issue. Chicago never won. In 2024, the Sky finished 13-27, then followed that with a league-worst 10-34 campaign last season.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s extremely early in the 2026 WNBA season, but Reese may finally get the best of both worlds. The Dream (6-2) have the league\u2019s second-best record behind the Minnesota Lynx<\/a> (7-2). They\u2019ll continue Commissioner\u2019s Cup play against the Indiana Fever<\/a> on Thursday.<\/p>\n
