From 11am to 4pm, artists will be showing and selling their works throughout the neighbourhood. In honour of Ottawa\u2019s 200th anniversary this year, there will also be actors in period clothing, playing characters from Britannia\u2019s history, as well as an Indigenous animator bringing the area\u2019s much older history to life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Stittsville, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/4188138488183086\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"Douglas Sutherland Arts in the Park\">Douglas Sutherland Arts in the Park<\/a> is a one-day celebration of art, crafts, music and food in Village Square Park (6000 Abbott Street East) from 9am to 3pm on Sunday, June 7. The fun includes food trucks, a vendors\u2019 market, a kids\u2019 talent show and more. Admission is free.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Further west, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.redtrilliumst.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"Red Trillium Studio Tour\">Red Trillium Studio Tour<\/a> in West Carleton (June 6 and 7) will showcase 13 artists\u2019 studios and 29 artists on Ottawa\u2019s western fringe (in and around Kinburn, Carp and Dunrobin). On this self-driving tour, shop for everything from pottery and photography to jewellery and furniture. The tour\u2019s website has lots of information on other things you can do in the area.<\/p>\n<p>Dance at a Perth fundraiser<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/perthbia.ticketsplease.ca\/events\/kick-off-to-summer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"Kick Off to Summer\">Kick Off to Summer<\/a> (Saturday, June 6) is a fundraiser at the Crystal Palace in Perth for the upcoming Stewart Park Festival. The dance tunes will be provided by Heatwave, a professional Motown tribute ensemble based in Kingston. Expect lots of classic soul and R&amp;B.<\/p>\n<p>Eat shawarma or Brazilian food in the ByWard Market<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two festivals coming to the ByWard Market this weekend look delicious. First up is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/2023793218485686\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"Saravah Brazilian Festival\">Saravah Brazilian Festival<\/a> (Saturday, June 6). From 11:30am to 9pm, it will bring the tastes and sounds of Brazil to the Market. Dance classes, food vendors and live music will keep things hopping.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shawarmafest.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"Shawarma Fest\">Shawarma Fest<\/a> (Sunday, June 7) claims to be Canada\u2019s biggest shawarma festival. And this year, the organizers are aiming for another superlative: the Guinness world record for longest shawarma ever made! As well as lots of shawarma, the Market festival will feature live entertainment and family fun.<\/p>\n<p>Enjoy free tunes in Arnprior<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tunes of all sorts will be wafting out over Robert Simpson Park in Arnprior during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arnprior.ca\/en\/recreation-and-culture\/priorpalooza-music-festival.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"Priorpalooza\">Priorpalooza<\/a>, a one-day music festival on Saturday, June 6. Family fun will include bouncy castles, food trucks, a beer garden, a train show, a volleyball tournament and a paddling festival, along with the park\u2019s beach and splash pad. Admission to the festival is free.<\/p>\n<p>Discover world cultures in Gatineau<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/26353412337587211\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"Le Festival Joie de Vivre\">Le Festival Joie de Vivre<\/a> is a one-day celebration of the foods, music and traditions of the world\u2019s cultures. Enjoy live music, food tastings, workshops and more. It\u2019s taking place from 12pm to 4pm on Saturday, June 7, at Place de la Cit\u00e9 in Gatineau. In Perth, the fun includes a drag show on Friday, and a parade and community fair on Saturday. Smiths Falls will have a flag raising and barbecue on Saturday. Brockville Pride Week features all sorts of events between June 1 and 7, including a Pride Parade on Saturday. And the Kingston Pride Festival begins on June 6 and runs until June 14. There will be lots of live music, too!<\/p>\n<p>Sign up your kids for a garden workshop in Edwards<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wondering how to amuse your offspring on the upcoming PD Day on Friday, June 5? Green Corners U-pick Flower Farm in Edwards is hosting a bilingual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencorners.ca\/products\/secretgardenworkshop\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"Secret Garden Workshop\">secret garden workshop<\/a> for kids that day. The annual event pairs Stonehouse wines with foods raised in Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry; this year\u2019s farm partner is Kirkview Farms in Dalkeith. The farm raises pork, beef, lamb, chicken and turkey, and a smoker will be onsite for the event. As I type this on Monday, most times are sold out, but there are still about 90 tickets available for the 1pm time slot. Tickets are $45 in advance or $55 at the gate.<\/p>\n<p>Shop for unique items in Hintonburg and Kemptville <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From spring through fall, you can check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/1980967779456844\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"Hintonburg Night Market\">Hintonburg Night Market<\/a> on Thursday nights. It takes place at 1088 Somerset Street West from 4pm to 9pm, and it features all things local, including unique handmade goods, and food and beverages. The next one is on Thursday, June 4.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Kemptville, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/kdhauxiliary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"Hey Day Annual Giant Garage Sale\">Hey Day Annual Giant Garage Sale<\/a> (June 5 and 6) is a huge indoor event at the North Grenville Municipal Centre. It\u2019s a fundraiser for the Kemptville District Hospital, and it\u2019s open on Friday from 4pm to 9pm, and Saturday from 9am to 1pm. <\/p>\n<p>Nosh on great food in Montreal<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Friday, June 5, dozens of food trucks will gather at Montreal\u2019s Parc Olympique for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lespremiersvendredis.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"First Fridays\">First Fridays<\/a>, a celebration of food truck fare. Confusingly, it\u2019s still called by its original name, but it actually runs on both Fridays and Saturdays (so this first edition will run on June 5 and 6). This event is usually really popular, so I\u2019d take transit to the site, if I were you. Deck your bike out with glow sticks or other illumination, and cycle under the stars to some groovy tunes.<\/p>\n<p>Get out on the water in Seeley\u2019s Bay<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.1000islandstourism.com\/event\/red-canoefest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"Red CanoeFest\">Red CanoeFest<\/a> is a celebration of water fun in Seeley\u2019s Bay on Saturday, June 6, from 9am to noon. Fun at the family-oriented event includes a free fishing derby for kids and a scavenger hunt.<\/p>\n<p>Cheer on the Redblacks at TD Place<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ottawaredblacks.com\/2026-schedule\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"2026 home opener\">2026 home opener<\/a>, the CFL\u2019s Ottawa Redblacks are playing the Edmonton Elks at TD Place at Lansdowne Park on Saturday, June 6. Kickoff is 7pm. Dig out your red, white and black gear, and join your fellow football fans.<\/p>\n<p>See a play in lots of places<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Upper Canada Playhouse in Morrisburg opens its summer season with a new Norm Foster comedy. In Danny and Delilah, a grumpy widower strikes up a friendship with a Pakistani student. It runs nightly (except Mondays) from June 4 to 28, with performances in the afternoon and\/or evening (depending on the day).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also opening this week are Once at the Gladstone Theatre, Alice in Wonderland Jr. in Kanata, a French-language version of Macbeth (set in 1990s Quebec) at the National Arts Centre and Very Heaven in Kingston. Continuing shows include Singin\u2019 in the Rain at Centrepointe, A Fox on the Fairway in Cornwall and Finnegan\u2019s Wake: A Dream Play in Kingston. (Last year, I had to look it up! Check out the photo above if I haven\u2019t painted quite enough of a picture with words.) And Sunwheel Farm just north of Alexandria is hosting a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/986798833762676\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"Spring Flower Fest\">Spring Flower Fest<\/a> on Saturday, June 6, to celebrate the pretty blooms. From 10am to 3pm, you can tiptoe among thousands of ranunculus plants.<\/p>\n<p>Gobble up ribs at the RA Centre<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.capitalribfest.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"Capital Ribfest\">Capital Ribfest<\/a> (June 5 to 7) moves to a new home this year: the RA Centre on Riverside Drive. Along with lots of grilled ribs, you can dig into hot dogs, donuts, lemonade and beer. There will be games and live music, too. (Be prepared for a bit of a slowdown if you\u2019re driving through the Bank Street and Riverside Drive intersection, which is currently under construction.)<\/p>\n<p>Learn about the ocean in Ottawa, Brockville, Montreal and elsewhere<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Communities across the country are holding events to mark <a href=\"https:\/\/oceanweekcan.ca\/events\/?_visibility=0public&amp;_year=2026&amp;_province=ontario%2Cquebec\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"Ocean Week Canada\">Ocean Week Canada<\/a> (June 1 to 7). In Ottawa, the hub of the festivities is the headquarters of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society on Sussex Drive. Events ranging from film screenings and art exhibitions to trivia games and water testing workshops are also happening at the Aquatarium in Brockville, Simon Fraser House in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, the Biod\u00f4me in Montreal and many other places. <\/p>\n<p>Check out cool murals in Montreal<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the <a href=\"https:\/\/muralfestival.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"Montreal Mural Festival\">Montreal Mural Festival<\/a> (June 4 to 14), artists will be painting new murals over many of the enormous outdoor artworks created for previous festivals. You can watch them at work and admire their new creations, and enjoy live music, DJ shows and block parties\u2014for free! The action all happens along St. Laurent Boulevard. The video above is from 2023, but it gives you some idea of what you can expect.<\/p>\n<p>Meet young entrepreneurs and swap kids\u2019 books in Gatineau<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Parc de la Ferme-Dalton in Gatineau is hosting <a href=\"https:\/\/parcdalton.com\/une-surprise-pour-le-6-juin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"la Grande journ\u00e9e des petits entrepreneurs\">la Grande journ\u00e9e des petits entrepreneurs<\/a> on Saturday, June 6, from 11am to 3pm. Budding businesspeople will be displaying and selling their creations. You can also bring used kids\u2019 books to swap for something new to read.<\/p>\n<p>See firefighters in Cumberland<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ottawa Fire Services and the Ottawa Police Service will be at Cumberland Heritage Village Museum for <a href=\"https:\/\/ottawa.ca\/en\/recreation-and-parks\/facilities\/place-listing\/cumberland-heritage-village-museum#section-4e1f996f-2692-412c-aea0-31676dde5a5d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"Firefighter Day\">Firefighter Day<\/a> on Saturday, June 6. Watch exciting demonstrations and see firefighting equipment up close. The family-friendly fun will include a bucket brigade, touch a truck opportunities, a tug of war, a children\u2019s firefighter challenge and a vehicle extraction (jaws of life) demonstration. Insider tip: Bring a towel!<\/p>\n<p>Take the kids to a festival in Blackburn Hamlet, Manotick or Saint-Isidore<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">True to its name, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackburnfunfair.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"Blackburn Hamlet Funfair\">Blackburn Hamlet Funfair<\/a> (June 5 to 7) offers fun for the whole family\u2014everything from fireworks, a parade and a used book sale to fun runs, bouncy castles, field games, a beer garden and a silent auction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From June 4 to 7, Manotick will be hosting <a href=\"https:\/\/manotickvillage.com\/event\/dickinsondays\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"Dickinson Days\">Dickinson Days<\/a>. Activities there will include a parade, a pancake breakfast, a kids\u2019 fishing derby, a craft fair, a scavenger hunt, fireworks and much more. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">East of the city, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/1881564202506442\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"Duck Festival\">Duck Festival<\/a> in Saint-Isidore (June 4 to 7) offers bouncy castles, a vendors\u2019 market, bingo, a whist tournament and, of course, a duck race.<\/p>\n<p>Try a new-to-you sport in Ottawa<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Ottawa Sport Council, in partnership with City of Ottawa Recreation, Cultural and Facilities Services and Ottawa 200, is hosting <a href=\"https:\/\/sportottawa.ca\/ottawa-200\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"Sports 200\">Sports 200<\/a> on June 6 and 7. It\u2019s a massive citywide initiative to encourage residents to participate in free drop-in sports activities. You don\u2019t need to bring equipment, as everything will be provided. With all sorts of artists and vendors on hand, you\u2019ll find lots to see and do (and buy!). As well as artists\u2019 stalls, there will be kids\u2019 activities, live music and all sorts of other fun.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The arts group Art de l\u2019Ordinaire is presenting a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.artdelordinaire.com\/%C3%A9v%C3%A9nements\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"craft market\">craft market<\/a> at the Cantley Community Centre on June 6 and 7. Shop for jewellery, glass items, painting and much more at this sale, which is celebrating its 22nd anniversary this year. Kids aged 8 to 17 will have their own zone to create in. <\/p>\n<p>Rev your motor in Smiths Falls or Ottawa<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first Smiths Falls <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/DowntownSmithsFalls\/posts\/pfbid02KYd4z948rWRWfv6b8Z8fgV2EdvcoafYvFiGbTNhZ54UV8NXE8GEMy3AmyDjDPWmsl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"Bike Night\">Bike Night<\/a> of the season is happening on Wednesday, June 3. Lots of motorcycle parking will be provided so you can check out the vendor stalls, pop into stores (which will be open late for the occasion), enjoy live music and check out the food trucks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Saturday, June 6, the <a href=\"https:\/\/ridefordad.ca\/chapter\/ottawa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"Ottawa Ride for Dad\">Ottawa Ride for Dad<\/a> is a big motorcycle event that raises funds for prostate cancer research. Register online or in person (at multiple locations) by June 5 to save $10 on your registration fee.
