The 2026 Roland Garros Wheelchair Championships are in full swing in Paris, with the world\u2019s top wheelchair tennis<\/a> players back on the famous clay courts for the second Grand Slam of the year.<\/p>\n

Just a month after turning 20, Paris 2024 Paralympic gold medallist Tokito Oda<\/a> is chasing his fourth straight French Open men\u2019s singles title. The Japanese star already has eight major titles to his name, including this year\u2019s Australian Open, and is hoping to make 2026 one of his best seasons yet.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis year I\u2019m definitely looking to win all four Grand Slams in the same year,\u201d he said, according to the official Roland Garros websit<\/a>e. \u201cIt\u2019s been over three years since I last lost here to my favourite ever player (Shingo) Kunieda.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a lot of special memories here and I want to make many more this year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Top seed Oda got off to a strong start, beating Great Britain\u2019s Gordon Reid 6-2, 6-4 in the opening round. Next up, he faces Brazil\u2019s Daniel Rodrigues in the quarterfinals, the same opponent he beat in straight sets on these courts at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.<\/p>\n

Paris 2024 silver medallist Alfie Hewett, who defeated Oda at the Japan Open in April, will meet China\u2019s Zhenxu Ji in his quarterfinal. Hewett cruised through his first match with a 6-3, 6-0 win over France\u2019s Guilhem Laget in under an hour.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Gustavo Fernandez, who made history as South America\u2019s first Paralympic medallist in wheelchair tennis, is looking to win his first Grand Slam singles title since 2019. He will\u00a0take on the Netherlands\u2019 Tom Egberink in the quarterfinals, while Spain\u2019s Martin de la Puente faces Japan\u2019s Takuya Miki in the other matchup.<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s singles<\/p>\n

In the women\u2019s draw, 23-time Grand Slam champion Diede de Groot is aiming for her first major title since 2024 after returning from hip surgery following the Paris Paralympics. She opened with a solid 6-0, 5-7, 6-1 win over fellow Dutch player Lizzy de Greef.<\/p>\n

Defending champion Yui Kamiji looked sharp in her first match against Jiske Griffioen and will now face France\u2019s Pauline Deroulede. Kamiji, who won her first Paralympic gold at Paris 2024, is chasing her fourth Grand Slam singles title.<\/p>\n

Quad singles<\/p>\n

In the quad singles event, Dutchman Sam Schroder will take on Turkiye\u2019s Ahmet Kaplan in the semifinals as he looks to claim his first French Open singles title, the only Grand Slam missing from his collection.<\/p>\n

Three-time Paralympic champion Niels Vink faces Guy Sasson in the other semifinal. Vink holds a 16-6 record over Sasson, who won the Roland Garros title last year.<\/p>\n
