MILWAUKEE\u00a0\u2014 The San Francisco Giants<\/a> entered Wednesday with the worst record in the National League, but they still landed all of their regulars on the All-Star ballot, even\u00a0Harrison Bader<\/a>, currently on the injured list for a second time.<\/p>\n

None of the Giants are likely to make it in off the fan ballot, given the team\u2019s record, but Arraez would be an obvious excellent choice as a league selection, and\u00a0Schmitt and Lee are worthy of consideration. Were the ballot to include a utility spot,\u00a0Schmitt would be terrific.<\/p>\n

Arraez is batting a team-best .323 and has turned himself into one of the best defensive second basemen in the league so far with the help of Ron Washington, while Lee has been the Giants\u2019 hottest hitter his past 10 games, lifting his average to .307.<\/p>\n

Key reliever shelved: Lefty Matt Gage, the bullpen\u2019s workhorse with a team-high 29 appearances, went on the 15-day IL on Wednesday with right knee inflammation.<\/p>\n

Gage is 4-1 with a 2.63 ERA, and he\u2019s allowed 18 hits and 13 walks in 24 innings, striking out 19. Over his past eight outings, he has given up five runs in six innings, including two homers, while posting a 7.50 ERA.<\/p>\n

Manager Tony Vitello<\/a> said the discomfort was between Gage\u2019s quad and knee, \u201cand he\u2019d been battling that for a while. If you know him, he\u2019s kind of been through everything you can to get into the big leagues and obviously doesn\u2019t want any time down. He\u2019s fought through it, but it\u2019s good to come forward with that information, because when he\u2019s at his best, he\u2019s one of our best guys, but he\u2019s got to get that past him, get a little bit of treatment. We\u2019ll see how long that actually is.\u201d<\/p>\n

To replace him, the Giants recalled right-hander Dylan Smith. Smith was briefly up last month and worked in one game for two-thirds of an inning. Erik Miller is likely to get even more wotk with Gage out.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Tuesday, the Giants announced that Christian Koss, who has been a utility infielder with the team for most of last year-plus, broke his left wrist at Triple-A Sacramento, which is bad news for the big-league team.\u00a0<\/p>\n
