Scary Movie<\/a> is finally here!<\/p>\n The latest installment of the spoof horror franchise hits theaters on Friday (June 5). Here\u2019s the synopsis:<\/p>\n Twenty-six years after outrunning a suspiciously familiar masked killer (\u201cGhostface\u201d), the Core Four are back in the killer\u2019s crosshairs and no horror movie IP is safe. Marlon Wayans (\u201cShorty\u201d), Shawn Wayans (\u201cRay\u201d), Anna Faris (\u201cCindy\u201d), and Regina Hall (\u201cBrenda\u201d) reunite in Scary Movie alongside returning favorites and fresh faces to slash through reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, sequels, spin-offs, elevated horror, origin stories, anything with the word legacy in it, and every \u201cfinal chapter\u201d that absolutely isn\u2019t final. Nothing is sacred. No trope survives. Every line gets crossed.\u00a0The Wayans are back to cancel the Cancel Culture.<\/p>\n Kenan Thompson, Dave Sheridan, Lochlyn Munro, Kim Wayans, Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, Damon Wayans Jr., Heidi Gardner, Olivia Rose Keegan, Cameron Scott Roberts, Savannah Lee Nassif, Sydney Park, Gregg Wayans, Benny Zielke, and Ruby Snowber all star as well.<\/p>\n But what do the critics have to say about it?<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Scary Movie has a 25% Rotten score on Rotten Tomatoes<\/p>\n The movie currently has a 25% Rotten score on Rotten Tomatoes.<\/a><\/p>\n TheWrap says: \u201cThe film\u2019s stubborn insistence that nothing about Scary Movie needs to change and it\u2019s the children who are wrong now makes its profane and controversial jokes feel conservative.\u201d<\/p>\n ScreenCrush gave it a 4 out of 10, writing: \u201cLike the raw notes from a writers\u2019 room brainstorming session.\u201d<\/p>\n The Guardian gave it 2 out of 5, saying: \u201cThe Wayans would probably describe this as classic take-no-prisoners comedy, prioritizing belly laughs above satire, horror or any sense of propriety. But honestly? They seem a little scared, too.\u201d<\/p>\n AP gave it a 1.5 out of 4, noting: \u201cEspecially toward the end, the filmmakers tread water with their references to M3GAN, Get Out, Candyman and The Substance \u2014 simply showing us a set-up from those films without doing anything to really skewer them.\u201d<\/p>\n Variety adds: \u201cIt\u2019s jammed with spoof-genre history, but that makes it feel more exhausting than exhilarating. It\u2019s a top-heavy satirical party that\u2019s become so meta it\u2019s meh.\u201d<\/p>\n The Daily Beast says: \u201cA familiar stew that\u2019s as scattershot as ever, and engineered to appeal to teens who can\u2019t get enough jokes about sex, race, and movies they\u2019ve already seen.\u201d<\/p>\n THR adds: \u201cThis kind of broad, slapstick parody needs a steady stream of laugh-out-loud moments, but the new Scary Movie generates barely a trickle.\u201d<\/p>\n IndieWire gave it a C+, writing: \u201cThe good news is that the Wayans have still mostly reclaimed the franchise they founded\u2026 For longtime Scary Movie fans, that development alone carries enough genuine emotional weight to make a trip to the movie theater worthwhile.\u201d<\/p>\n Empire says: \u201cThe posters \u2014 inspired parodies of recent horror films \u2014 are wittier than the film, suggesting that maybe next time get those ad creatives into the writers\u2019 room. Not your favourite Scary Movie.\u201d<\/p>\n NME concludes: \u201cThe film is really just an excuse to string together a bunch of cinematic in-jokes, meaning it lives or dies on the strength of its sketches.
