{"id":715962,"date":"2026-06-05T04:05:10","date_gmt":"2026-06-05T04:05:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/715962\/"},"modified":"2026-06-05T04:05:10","modified_gmt":"2026-06-05T04:05:10","slug":"community-bike-riding-event-returns-to-london","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/715962\/","title":{"rendered":"Community bike riding event returns to London"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Forest City Slow Roll takes place on June 6, with cyclist of all level ride through London neighborhoods.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/forestcityslowroll.raceroster.com\/page\/the-route\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">This year\u2019s London Cycle Link ride<\/a> will go through six different neighborhoods, including two new additions: old south and SoHo Laura Galvis Daza said the organizer of the event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur mission is to celebrate the bicycle,\u201d Galvis Daza said. \u201cTo encourage active transportation and pedestrian-first and cycling infrastructure in London.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ride will also showcase major biking projects along Central Ave, Colborne, Ridout Street, and the newly opened Victoria Street Bridge, Galvis Daza said. As well to enjoy the historical infrastructures the city has to offer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStreets are meant for people. It\u2019s pedestrians, cyclists, motorists, all abilities young and old, and we need to continue finding ways to share our streets\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The idea for the slow roll began in 2022, when the Forest City Cycling Challenge approached London Cycle Link after seeing similar events in other cities and proposed a partnership.<\/p>\n<p>London Cycle Link is a charitable organization that helps Londoners ride more. It was established in 2013, then launched a community bike repair shop in 2017, and added an education program in 2021. They advocate for safer streets at all levels of government and nurture a thriving cycling culture in London, Galvis Daza said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a lot of work setting up an event like this, especially in downtown London. It took about seven months to organize,\u201d said Galvis Daza.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/media-cdn.socastsrm.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/202\/files\/2026\/06\/f7767dfa-34e1-4ccb-b0e1-31b85cf436ea.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-150556\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-150556\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/f7767dfa-34e1-4ccb-b0e1-31b85cf436ea-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-150556\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">First annual forest city slow roll event (Credit: Felix Longpre)<\/p>\n<p>The event runs from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., with the ride starting at 3 p.m. on Dundas Street between Ridout and Talbot Street.\u00a0 Riders are encouraged to dress up. Food trucks, prizes, and activities will be available before and after for all those who register online.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the amount of work involved, there is no rain date.
