Plies in a second position &#8211; YouTube<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/1780249512_415_maxresdefault.jpg\" alt=\"Barre Workout Hints and Tips 02 - Plies in a second position - YouTube\" data-aspect-ratio=\"16\/9\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"watch-on-youtube-5-JodZMjABQ\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/5-JodZMjABQ\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/5-JodZMjABQ\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Watch On <\/a><\/p>\n<p id=\"elk-c8b9f9e9-8b11-4ba5-a0ee-1df0e6d0efea\">Reps: 16<\/p>\n<p>How to do it:<\/p>\n<p>Stand with your feet wider than shoulder-width apart.Turn your toes and your knees to point out to the sides\u2014your toes and knees should be aligned and stay that way throughout.Bend your knees to lower your torso, moving your knees forward so they are over your toes, keeping your torso completely straight.Push through the feet to straighten your knees and rise back to the starting position.<\/p>\n<p id=\"elk-48d13085-ac22-49b2-b7ea-a265eca0a5de\">Tips: \u201cGo as low as feels right for you,\u201d Riley says. \u201cYou should feel challenged but you should also be able to get back up with good form.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>            What to read next<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t mistake the movement for a squat. \u201cThe main difference between this and a squat is that a squat has a hinge pattern, so you tip your chest forward slightly and send your hips back, which loads the posterior chain and works the glutes a bit differently,\u201d she says. \u201cA second position plie opens the hips out to the side, which means you\u2019re rotating through the hip socket.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-how-to-progress-the-second-position-plie\"\/>How to progress the second position pli\u00e9<\/p>\n<p id=\"elk-63206f7b-aa29-439d-98a4-11860a7075c2\">Below, Riley offers two ways to make the second position pli\u00e9 more challenging.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-3b9348a4-965c-49e8-b281-b626ef0a5a21\"\/>Add a pulse<\/p>\n<p>S2 Barre Basics: Wide plie squat (second position) &#8211; Return it to the floor to complete one heel list.
