the best-selling and most revered artists of all time, but \u2013 much to her chagrin and that of her dedicated fans (affectionately called #Lambs) \u2013 her track record with the Recording Academy doesn\u2019t exactly bespeak of that reverence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The owner of only 6 GRAMMYs and 34 nominations over her 35-year career, Carey\u2019s losses at the award show (namely its 1996 iteration where she lost six times in one night) are nothing short of historic.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In recent trips down memory lane, Mariah \u2013 in no uncertain terms \u2013 waxed honest about her feelings on her headline-grabbing losing streaks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Look inside to see what she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Carey, hot on the promo trail in support of her latest single \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/thatgrapejuice.net\/2025\/07\/new-song-mariah-carey-sugar-sweet-featuring-kehlani-shenseea\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sugar Sweet<\/a>\u2018 and its September-due parent album <a href=\"https:\/\/thatgrapejuice.net\/2025\/07\/mariah-carey-unveils-here-for-it-alternative-covers\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018Here for It All,\u2019<\/a> recently dropped by our friends at \u2018Pitchfork\u2019 to play the \u2018Over\/Under\u2019 game in which she weighed in on hot topics to grade them as \u201coverrated\u201d or \u201cunderrated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When quizzed about her thoughts on the golden gramophone and its associated annual ceremony, the Songbird Supreme quickly ranked music\u2019s biggest night as the former.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the GRAMMYs are overrated,\u201d she relayed before clarifying she meant the award show and the trophy itself.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The sentiment is one she\u2019s shared as recently as last year when she dropped by the \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/thatgrapejuice.net\/2024\/10\/mariah-carey-crowns-butterfly-her-best-album-promises-fans-they-will-hear-her-secret-rock-project-someday-video\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Las Culturistas<\/a>\u2018 podcast.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey scammed me,\u201d Carey said at the time while reflecting on her shocking 6-time loss at the show\u2019s 1996 edition. \u201cThey toy with me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Carey won her first two competitive GRAMMYs in 1991, but didn\u2019t nab another golden gramophone until 2006 when she collected a trio of trophies for her \u2018Emancipation of Mimi\u2019\u00a0album.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 2024, Carey was bestowed an honorary GRAMMY in the form of the Recording Academy\u2019s Global Impact Award.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">And while her new album\u2019s September arrival will cause it to miss the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.recordingacademy.com\/awards\/faq\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ceremony\u2019s deadline<\/a> for 2026 nominations, it could still garner a few nods in 2027 and potentially improve Mimi\u2019s winning
