{"id":718235,"date":"2026-06-06T04:01:13","date_gmt":"2026-06-06T04:01:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/718235\/"},"modified":"2026-06-06T04:01:13","modified_gmt":"2026-06-06T04:01:13","slug":"edmonton-public-schools-to-pause-international-school-trips-edmonton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/718235\/","title":{"rendered":"Edmonton Public Schools to \u2018pause\u2019 international school trips &#8211; Edmonton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\tDescrease article font size<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tIncrease article font size<\/p>\n<p>It looks like students in <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/edmonton-public-schools\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Edmonton Public Schools<\/a> will be staying closer to home next school year.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/70c8fc80.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"position:absolute;width:1px;height:1px\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The division says it has made the decision to \u201cpause all international school trips and school-based exchanges for the 2026-27 school year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One parent shared a letter from Allendale School about the change with Global News<\/p>\n<p>In it, the school\u2019s principal writes the division made the change \u201camid a complex global landscape of evolving political, economic and public health challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter examining a variety of factors, this decision was made out of an abundance of caution to avoid unnecessary risk and support the safety of everyone in school communities,\u201d the letter continues.<\/p>\n<p>Sylvia Harte says she received a similar notice.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"170\" height=\"225\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/national.jpg\" alt=\"Get daily Canada news delivered to your inbox so you'll never miss the day's top stories.\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tGet daily National news<\/p>\n<p>Get daily Canada news delivered to your inbox so you&#8217;ll never miss the day&#8217;s top stories.<\/p>\n<p>Harte\u2019s daughter, Audrey, is supposed to go on an overseas school trip next year as part of her language of choice program.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re frustrated,\u201d Harte said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-blockquote__content l-article__blockquoteContent\">\u201cWe\u2019re confused and feeling profoundly sad for our children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe messaging we received was vague and it refers to global risks and health risks.
