{"id":719043,"date":"2026-06-06T13:18:09","date_gmt":"2026-06-06T13:18:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/719043\/"},"modified":"2026-06-06T13:18:09","modified_gmt":"2026-06-06T13:18:09","slug":"fernando-alonso-delivers-savage-f1-hybrid-power-unit-verdict","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/719043\/","title":{"rendered":"Fernando Alonso delivers savage F1 hybrid power unit verdict"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fernando Alonso has delivered a savage verdict on the current generation of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsportweek.com\/series\/single-seater\/formula-1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Formula 1 <\/a>cars, declaring that \u201cHybrid cars should not be racing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alonso is one of the current generation of F1 cars\u2019 fiercest critics, criticising the impact of battery and electric power on the racing spectacle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With no Straight Line Mode available to the drivers, the short lap of Monaco negates a lot of the issues seen in earlier races, primarily super-clipping.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But Alonso has criticised the impact of the current regulations on the car\u2019s ability to drive around the famous street circuit, highlighting key areas. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is probably the worst generation of cars I ever drove in Monaco,\u201d he said after FP2.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe way you charge the battery, with the braking and lifting off and things like that, obviously creates a lot of inconsistency into the engine braking of the car. Sometimes you have less, sometimes you have push and sometimes not.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf the battery is completely full, then you don\u2019t recharge because the battery is full. So you don\u2019t have engine braking. It\u2019s like pushing.<\/p>\n<p>Fernando Alonso explains energy concerns <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alonso then delivered his blunt assessment of the the new rules, before elaborating on the issues caused by the battery. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s just the rules. Hybrid cars should not be racing. It\u2019s as simple as that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNow, we harvest a lot during braking,\u201d he explained. \u201cThe rear axle is just charging the battery massively on the braking. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAnd then you have these downshifts that you need to interact with the engine blip to engage the next gear. There are a lot of things going on this year and it seems that we are not at the level yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alonso is never likely to warm to the current regulations, his latest take particularly savage.
