Lewis Hamilton was third for Ferrari.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was one of those laps that we call a magic lap. (AP Photo\/Fatima Shbair)<\/p>\n<p>The 19-year-old Antonelli\u2019s teammate and title rival George Russell was only sixth.<\/p>\n<p>Qualifying is typically more important in Monaco than any other track in F1 because it is almost impossible to overtake on the narrow, twisty street circuit.<\/p>\n<p>Antonelli, who took the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal in May, will now be favourite for a fifth Grand Prix win in a row Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s a feat that only Verstappen and Hamilton have achieved among current drivers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mercedes aims to continue its run of winning every Grand Prix so far this season, though Lando Norris won one sprint race in Miami for McLaren.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/6a243d7e5e7ae3fddfb7ccbcjpeg.jpg\" data-pswp- data-pswp-width=\"8640\" data-pswp-height=\"5760\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/6a243d7e5e7ae3fddfb7ccbcjpeg.jpg\" alt=\"Mercedes driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli of Italy steers his car during the third free practice for the Monaco F1 Grand Prix, at the Monaco racetrack, Saturday, June 6, 2026.
