The founder of Chicago-based sports-tech venture capital firm KB Partners set out three decades ago to do more than write checks for charity. KEITH BANK envisioned an event that would combine excellence in experience with a deep commitment to cancer research. That vision became the Chicago Select Golf Invitational, now one of the nation\u2019s premier golf fundraising events. <\/p>\n
This year\u2019s tournament, held this coming Monday at Medinah Country Club, is expected to raise $2M in a single day, pushing the event\u2019s cumulative fundraising total to nearly $30M since its inception. The tournament is contested on Medinah\u2019s newly renovated No. 3 course. <\/p>\n
Unlike many charity tournaments that rely on star power, the Chicago Select Golf Invitational distinguishes itself through its quality and mission. <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve always wanted the celebrity of the event to be the cause itself,\u201d said Bank, who is chairing this year\u2019s 30th anniversary event. \u201cFrom the gifts and service to the caliber of the golf course and the auction, everything is first-class.\u201d <\/p>\n
Participants receive premium merchandise, a full day of hospitality and engage in live and silent auctions. Foursomes range from $6,000 to $20,000, with additional funds raised through contests, donations, and a \u201cRaise the Paddle\u201d segment where attendees have previously pledged upwards of $400,000 following a cancer survivor\u2019s testimony at the event\u2019s dinner. <\/p>\n
For years, Bank sat in the audience listening to survivors share their stories. But two years ago, the narrative shifted as he became one of them. Diagnosed with cancer just weeks before the event, Bank underwent surgery to remove part of his kidney. The experience deepened his connection to the cause and reaffirmed his commitment. <\/p>\n
This year\u2019s keynote speaker is longtime Chicagoan EDDIE OLCZYK, whose own battle with cancer is expected to resonate deeply with attendees. In partnership with the American Cancer Society, the Invitational has become a national model for charity golf events.
