Tennis icon and Los Angeles native Serena Williams has committed to participating in a second tournament after nearly four years away from the sport.<\/p>\n

Williams announced earlier this week she is competing doubles<\/a> with Victoria Mboko in the HSBC Championships in London. On Friday, it was announced she would also be playing doubles at the Berlin Tennis Open that begins on June 15.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery tournament I add to my schedule right now feels special, and Berlin is no exception,\u201d Williams said on berlintennisopen.com. \u201cI\u2019m excited to compete in front of the German fans and continue building momentum throughout the grass-court season.\u201d<\/p>\n

Williams\u2019 doubles partner for the Berlin Tennis Open has yet to be announced.<\/p>\n

Williams Has Not Competed in Nearly Four Years<\/p>\n

Going into the HSBC Championships, Williams is coming off a nearly four-year hiatus. Her last professional match was at the 2022 US Open against Ajla Tomljanovic.<\/p>\n

Williams has not announced if she intends to play at Wimbledon but the timing of her return suggests that could be her goal. Tennis legend Lindsay Davenport said if anyone can accomplish that feat after four years into retirement, it would be Williams.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not going to be easy,\u201d Davenport said, per ESPN<\/a>. \u201cIf anyone could do it, certainly it could be her. She looks in incredible shape, and better shape than arguably when she left the sport.<\/p>\n

\u201cHer mindset has always been to not settle for mediocrity. So I think we have to assume that she\u2019s coming back because she feels she\u2019s in a position where she can actually make an impact immediately in women\u2019s tennis.\u201d<\/p>\n
