Hundreds of people attended the 2026 Car Free Day Surrey festival despite the rain showers.<\/p>\n
Dozens of vendors, several food trucks, and entertainment stages lined 137 Street between 74 Ave and 72A Ave, transforming the normally busy side street into a temporary \u201ccar-free zone\u201d from noon- 8 p.m. Saturday (June 6). <\/p>\n
The free, family-friendly event also featured a special soccer bus with a \u201cFIFA-themed TransLink wrap.\u201d There was also a rock-climbing wall, mini golf, bounce houses, and live music and performances.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat started as a grassroots movement to promote sustainable living has grown into one of the city\u2019s most anticipated events, attracting thousands of attendees each year,\u201d reads an event description on carfree.ca.<\/p>\n
Sponsors of the fifth annual fest include Newton BIA, Translink, City of Surrey and Amazon.<\/p>\n
The event starts in Vancouver on Commercial Drive and has grown to other communities over the years.<\/p>\n

Surrey is the first of many Car Free Days in the Lower Mainland this summer. The next one is on June 27th in North Vancouver, followed by one in Port Moody on August 16th.<\/p>\n
