Investing.com — The initial public offering market is bracing for a historic influx of capital, led by Elon Musk\u2019s private space enterprise. Space Exploration Technologies Corp (NASDAQ:SPCX) is set to go public on June 12 to raise up to $80 billion at a $1.8 trillion valuation, followed by multi-trillion-dollar debuts from Anthropic and OpenAI.<\/p>\n
According to a recent research report from Yardeni Research, fears are mounting that this “AI-3” trio will suck the oxygen out of the rest of the equity market. However, Yardeni is not concerned about a liquidity drain, noting that while their combined valuations will hit $5 trillion, the actual capital being raised is a manageable $200 billion.<\/p>\n
Wall Street investment bankers plan to give retail investors the opportunity to participate directly in these offerings to help raise the capital. Analysts at Yardeni expect everyday investors to respond enthusiastically, backed by massive retail liquidity.<\/p>\n
Additionally, the broader market easily dwarfs these upcoming offerings, as the combined market capitalization of the Wilshire 5000 and S&P 500 sits at well over $130 trillion. Furthermore, Yardeni notes that the AI-3 will not immediately swell these indexes because their initial public free float will be remarkably small.<\/p>\n
SpaceX is only floating roughly 4.3% of its shares to the public, and its peers are expected to offer similarly puny floats. This is a sharp contrast to the Magnificent Seven, which command a total market capitalization of $24 trillion and boast exceptionally high public ownership between 81% and 98%.<\/p>\n
To accommodate these unique listings, index providers have been rapidly adjusting, with the Nasdaq cutting its inclusion window to 15 days on May 1. However, S&P Dow Jones Indices announced last week it would not change its rules to ease S&P 500 inclusion for these mega-caps.<\/p>\n
Even without rule changes, Bloomberg Intelligence estimates that tracking funds will still need to absorb a massive percentage of SpaceX\u2019s public float. This dynamics creates a tense scenario where forced index buying collides directly with an incredibly limited supply of shares.<\/p>\n
Despite the intense marketing and hype, the underlying financials of these tech giants present significant risk for new investors. The combined 2025 losses of the AI-3 topped $25 billion, and much of their valuation relies on an unproven $22.7 trillion enterprise AI market, the analysts noted.
