Mariah Carey<\/a> just shared how she honestly feels about Billboard\u2018s charts.<\/p>\n

In a game of \u201cOver\/Under\u201d with Pitchfork posted Thursday (Aug. 14), Mimi talked about whether she thinks the song and album charts \u2014 many of which she\u2019s dominated at different points throughout her career \u2014 are over- or underrated. \u201cWell, they matter to me a lot,\u201d she began.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, I\u2019m going to say they\u2019re underrated, because not everybody is in that world,\u201d Carey continued. \u201cSometimes the songs are, like, literally underrated, because people don\u2019t know them, and they\u2019re album cuts. And then sometimes it\u2019s like [Billboard Hot 100<\/a> chart-topper] \u2018All I Want for Christmas Is You\u2019 \u2014 not sometimes, one time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carey is a record holder<\/a> for most No. 1 hits on the Hot 100 as a solo artist with 19, just one less than The Beatles\u2019 record 20. She\u2019s also the only artist<\/a> to have a No. 1 on the chart in 20 distinct years, and in 2019, she became the first artist to have had a Hot 100 No. 1 in four different decades<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And of course, Carey annually ascends to the top of Billboard\u2018s holiday charts with evergreen hit \u201cAll I Want for Christmas Is You,\u201d which has collected 18 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 since its release in 1994. When asked about her mind-boggling chart successes last year in an interview with Billboard<\/a>, Carey said that it was \u201castonishing.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cTo have 19 No. 1 singles and be one away from The Beatles \u2026 I don\u2019t know how I can\u2019t acknowledge that,\u201d she added at the time. \u201cOne away from The Beatles \u2026 that\u2019s a lot. I think it\u2019s a little hard to wrap my head around.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in the Pitchfork video, Carey shared her thoughts on everything from Love Island \u2014 in her words: \u201cUgh\u201d \u2014 to Labubus, which she said are \u201cso cute.\u201d As for another decades-old music industry institution, the Songbird Supreme stated, \u201cI think the Grammys are overrated \u2026 But we love everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n
