MONTREAL \u2014 Former McGill University offensive lineman Domenico Piazza<\/a> has signed with the Canadian Football League’s Toronto Argonauts, the club announced on Thursday.<\/p>\n

He is\u00a0among 163 products from U SPORTS institutions listed on Canadian Football League rosters listed on opening day\u00a0of the 2026 CFL season. Piazza becomes the 66th McGill football alumnus to earn a professional opportunity in the CFL.<\/p>\n

A native of Mercier, Que., Piazza joins the Argos after previously spending time with the Edmonton Elks organization. He was originally selected by Edmonton in the fifth round, 40th overall, of the 2025 CFL Draft following an outstanding university career with the Redbirds.<\/p>\n

The 6-foot-2, 294-pounder completed five seasons at McGill, where he established himself as one of the top offensive linemen in U SPORTS. Piazza was a two-time RSEQ conference all-star who earned U SPORTS first-team All-Canadian honours in 2025 after meriting second-team status in 2024.<\/p>\n

A co-captain during his final season with the Redbirds last fall, Piazza started all 40 regular-season games of his McGill career. He demonstrated remarkable versatility along the offensive line, making 25 starts at left tackle, eight at centre and seven at left guard.<\/p>\n

After attending Edmonton’s training camp in 2025, Piazza returned to McGill for a fifth season while pursuing a certificate in public relations and communications management. He had previously earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in industrial relations.<\/p>\n

In 2025, Piazza moved to centre and handled the team’s snapping duties while anchoring an offensive line that helped him secure his second straight\u00a0All-Canadian recognition. He also recovered a fumble in the Redbirds’ season-opening contest against Sherbrooke.<\/p>\n

Il fait partie des 163 anciens du r\u00e9seau U SPORTS inscrits sur les formations de la Ligue canadienne de football (LCF) \u00e0 l’ouverture de la saison 2026. Piazza devient \u00e9galement le 66e ancien du programme de football de l’Universit\u00e9 McGill \u00e0 d\u00e9crocher une occasion de poursuivre sa carri\u00e8re dans le circuit professionnel canadien. <\/p>\n

Originaire de Mercier, en Mont\u00e9r\u00e9gie, Piazza se joint aux Argonauts apr\u00e8s un passage au sein de l’organisation des Elks d’Edmonton. Il avait \u00e9t\u00e9 s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9 par Edmonton au cinqui\u00e8me tour, au 40e rang au total, lors du rep\u00eachage de la LCF en 2025, au terme d’une brillante carri\u00e8re universitaire avec les Redbirds.<\/p>\n

Le joueur de ligne de 6 pieds 2 pouces et 294 livres a disput\u00e9 cinq saisons \u00e0 McGill, o\u00f9 il s’est impos\u00e9 parmi les meilleurs joueurs de ligne offensive du r\u00e9seau U SPORTS. Choix d’\u00e9toiles du RSEQ \u00e0 deux reprises, Piazza a \u00e9t\u00e9 nomm\u00e9 sur la premi\u00e8re \u00e9quipe canadienne d’\u00e9toiles de U SPORTS en 2025, apr\u00e8s avoir m\u00e9rit\u00e9 une place sur la deuxi\u00e8me \u00e9quipe en 2024.<\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s avoir particip\u00e9 au camp d’entra\u00eenement des Elks en 2025, Piazza est revenu \u00e0 McGill pour une cinqui\u00e8me saison tout en compl\u00e9tant un certificat en gestion des relations publiques et des communications. Il d\u00e9tenait d\u00e9j\u00e0 un baccalaur\u00e9at \u00e8s arts en relations industrielles.<\/p>\n

En 2025, il a effectu\u00e9 la transition vers le poste de centre, assumant les responsabilit\u00e9s des remises tout en dirigeant une ligne offensive qui lui a permis d’obtenir une deuxi\u00e8me s\u00e9lection canadienne cons\u00e9cutive.
