(File photo) <\/p>\n<p class=\"author\">By <a href=\"https:\/\/nunatsiaq.com\/author\/arty-sarkisian\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Headshot-2-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><br \/>\n\t Arty Sarkisian &#8211; Local Journalism Initiative Reporter<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Government of Nunavut is developing a \u201crelationship\u201d with the territory\u2019s federal bureaucrats ahead of devolution, Premier John Main said Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The territory is looking to hire some of those federal employees, who could lose their jobs because of devolution.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe\u2019re still working very closely,\u201d Main told the legislative assembly. \u201cUltimately it will be an individual decision, person by person, whether or not they want to accept that offer and come over to work for the Government of Nunavut.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In January 2024, the federal and territorial governments <a href=\"https:\/\/nunatsiaq.com\/stories\/article\/historic-moment-nunavut-signs-devolution-agreement-with-canada\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">signed<\/a> a devolution agreement, through which Ottawa will transfer its land management responsibilities to the GN.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement will take effect April 1, 2027, and impact 68 federal employees in Nunavut, Main said.<\/p>\n<p>The GN will start sending formal job offers to those employees in October.
