A resident who witnessed the initial break said water surged suddenly. <\/p>\n
\u201cI was just walking down the street, and then water came in front of me 10 feet from it,\u201d they said. \u201cI was right there.\u201d<\/p>\n
What began as a break in the line has since become a major neighbourhood headache. Karen Lasku lives along the affected stretch and says the sinkhole has nearly doubled in size since the rupture.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been growing day by day, it\u2019s been getting bigger and bigger,\u201d she said, adding she worries the collapse could reach the sidewalk. \u201cThen we\u2019d be actually trapped in here, and we don\u2019t know for how long.\u201d<\/p>\n
Residents were without running water for close to four days after the break, and frustrations remain even with service restored. <\/p>\n

Lasku says the city has warned the entire cul-de-sac may need to be closed if the ground continues to shift.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019re talking about closing this entire cul-de-sac off because they think there might be further caving in, so I\u2019m not sure if I should take my car out of the garage and park up the street,\u201d she said. \u201cThat\u2019s what we\u2019ve been doing.\u201d<\/p>\n
Others in the area echoed her concerns, praising city workers on the ground but expressing disappointment with how long repairs have taken.<\/p>\n
The City of Calgary says crews have encountered challenges at the site. In a statement, officials said a larger crew has now been mobilized and repairs are expected to be completed early this week, followed by backfilling and roadway restoration.<\/p>\n
One resident noted the timing could have made the situation far worse. <\/p>\n
\u201cGood thing that this didn\u2019t happen in January, it would be very hard to work with that.\u201d<\/p>\n
