Hugo\u2019s mother, author Sophie Kinsella, died in December 2025 of glioblastoma<\/a>. In her memory, Hugo joined hundreds of other walkers\u00a0at The\u00a0Twilight Walk<\/a> in London during Brain Tumour Awareness Month\u00a0\u2013\u00a0part of the family\u2019s\u00a0continued\u00a0support of The Charity.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Not to be outdone by his younger brother\u00a0Oscar\u2019s\u00a0recent\u00a0half marathon<\/a>, Hugo has upped the\u00a0stakes\u00a0by\u00a0putting\u00a0on the gloves for a boxing\u00a0fundraiser\u00a0at\u00a0The\u00a0Troxy\u00a0in\u00a0Limehouse, London,\u00a0on\u00a019\u00a0June.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lacing up his gloves is definitely out<\/a> of his comfort zone: \u201cI\u2019ve never loved cardio training, I\u2019m more of a weight training guy; doing stuff like training for halves or marathons (ahem, Oscar) is a popular route but it\u2019s not me. When training\u00a0for an event like this, it\u2019s easier to stay motivated and on track than knowing that, regardless of cause or fundraising or anything like that, if I slack off I will get punished for it with a punch in the face. Nothing focuses the mind quite like that!\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been a big fitness challenge get match ready as the bout gets ever closer. \u201cThe organisation I\u2019m doing this with (White Collar Boxing London<\/a>) is very rigorous in ensuring everyone who fights is physically up to the task. Part of this is a pair of bleep tests (the ones most of us did in school) near the start and end of the camp, as well as a very nasty \u2018Sprint Test\u2019 in the middle, which is like the bleep but much worse. The longest 12 minutes of my life!\u201d<\/p>\n

As yet, Hugo\u2019s opponent is the biggest unknown.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been told his name, but besides that I know nothing yet about him; his height\/reach, his weight (significantly lighter or heavier than me?), his fitness compared to mine. All these things can help me with my strategy \u2013 the way I\u2019d prepare for someone four inches shorter than me is very different to how I\u2019d prepare for someone four inches taller.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn my first fight, due to late dropouts changing up the matchups, I didn\u2019t know who I was fighting until the afternoon of the event. That was nerve-wracking, especially for a first time!\u201d<\/p>\n

As part of his fundraising efforts, Hugo has developed some innovative tactics for an auction that included: the right to design his boxing gown (won by his \u201cever-supporting\u201d girlfriend), the right to design his shorts, and the right to choose his walkout song.<\/p>\n

These prizes have thrown up an opportunity for fresh humiliation it seems\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cThose supporting friends have taken it upon themselves to create the most embarrassing\u00a0and\/or bizarre and incoherent clothes for me to fight in. The combination of camo, leopard print and neon tassels on the shorts was particularly fine work.<\/p>\n

\u201cI also have yet to be informed what I\u2019m walking out to, but \u201cBarbie Girl\u201d, \u201cCrazy Frog\u201d and \u201cFergalicious\u201d have been floated as potential contenders.\u201d<\/p>\n
