Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino are to reprise their roles in a long-awaited sequel to Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.<\/p>\n
The original film, released in 1997, followed best friends Romy and Michele as they returned to their home town for a school reunion and invented elaborate lies in an attempt to impress their former classmates.<\/p>\n
The cult comedy also starred Janeane Garofalo and Alan Cumming, with a cameo from Justin Theroux.<\/p>\n
An Instagram post from 20th Century Studios announced that the sequel was in production, showing Kudrow and Sorvino in costume, sitting in director\u2019s chairs bearing the names Romy and Michele.<\/p>\n
The post was captioned: “The reunion you\u2019ve been waiting for! The Romy and Michele sequel is now in production.”<\/p>\n
Sorvino wrote in the comments: “It\u2019s finally happening. Bursting with joy to be ‘reunited!\u2019”<\/p>\n

A sequel to the film has long been discussed, and Kudrow and Sorvino marked the film\u2019s 25th anniversary at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in 2022.<\/p>\n
The pair wore coordinated blue and pink suits in a nod to their outfits from the film as they presented the award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.<\/p>\n
In the film, Kudrow\u2019s character Michele wears a pale pink dress to the reunion, while Sorvino\u2019s Romy wears electric blue.<\/p>\n
The actors also recreated the voices of their characters on stage, with Sorvino telling Kudrow: “You look cute.”<\/p>\n
Kudrow replied: “I know, thanks. So do you, of course. Do you think this is the cutest anyone\u2019s ever looked at an awards show?”<\/p>\n
Sorvino continued: “I just realised this: we\u2019re wearing great ensembles while at the same time presenting to great ensembles.”<\/p>\n
The pair also held up a stack of Post-it notes, a reference to Romy and Michele pretending they had invented the sticky note pads in an attempt to impress their former classmates.<\/p>\n
The original film\u2019s screenwriter Robin Schiff has reportedly returned to write the sequel, with Garofalo, Cumming, Camryn Manheim and Julia Campbell also reported to be reprising their roles.<\/p>\n
