Jason Richer, who has lived on Abbotsford Crescent for more than a year, said on June 8, 2026, he was surprised when police found a 15-year-old girl \u2014 the suspect in a stabbing of a man in his 40s \u2014 hiding behind his shed after the June 6 incident.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe dogs didn\u2019t even hear it,\u201d he said, gesturing to a structure near the back of the yard. \u201cAnd she was behind that shed right there.\u201d<\/p>\n
Richer said the girl was hiding between the shed and the fence when police found her, taking her into custody.<\/p>\n
The Winnipeg Police Service\u2019s helicopter, tactical support team and a canine unit were involved in the response, police said.<\/p>\n
Richer said he realized something was afoot when he spotted a person running shirtless toward a police cruiser.<\/p>\n
A resident of Abbotsford for more than 50 years, Denise Elias was left feeling uneasy after the incident.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am shocked,\u201d she said. \u201cBut I guess maybe I shouldn\u2019t be with the way things are going, but I am shocked for this neighbourhood, it\u2019s always been quiet.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sending her support to the jogger who was injured, Caroline Fisher, owner of Big Sky Run Co. on Tache Avenue, said she hopes the attack doesn\u2019t dissuade people taking to the streets.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhenever something like this happens \u2014 whether it\u2019s in Winnipeg or elsewhere \u2014 I don\u2019t want it to be a commentary on running,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s more of a reflection of where things are at as a city.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fisher said while she understands it may take some time before the victim is ready to talk about the incident, or run again, she hopes they get in touch with the store so she can replace any gear that may have been affected.<\/p>\n
